only 29% want to re-ELECT Bush, but CNN calls him "popular"
It's amazing how a president who has a 29% re-elect number in the new CNN poll can be called "popular" but that is what CNN is doing in analyzing its newest poll numbers:

"Some 41% of all registered voters say they will definitely vote against Bush, Just 29% say they will definitely vote for him, so Bush must now woo about seven in ten swing voters--not a difficult task for a POPULAR incumbent but far from a certainty."

Hmm, I wonder how many other politicians with a 29% re-elect number can get away with being called popular?

7. I never use squatter's name in print
& avoid speaking it. I tend 2 traditional Bliefs that using the name gives them power.

3. It's habit.
They've been talking about *'s popularity so long, they just keep writing it. The phrases are probably in the word processor and pop up automatically. Sort of auto-fill.

Another noteworthy item of this poll. Kerry leads the national poll of Democrats. Not meaningful at this time, except that all the pundits have been talking about his lack of success and Dean's ascendancy (based on polls in Iowa and NH). I can back either man, but I'd rather the decision not be made by the media pundits on the basis of early polls.

9. interesting - the "auto-fill" conspiracy?
Maybe that's partially responsible for the decline of media standards... Microsoft Word's auto-complete features. :tinfoilhat:

4. When Davis had reelect numbers of that size
all of the media talked about how UNpopular he was. I guess that's the "fuzzy math" Bush talked about.

6. Ozzy Osborne is popular but that doesn't mean we want
him to be our president. Bush may be a good guy to play golf with, but that doesn't make him presidential material.

12. reminds me of a bumper sticker
I saw the most asinine bumper sticker yesterday, something like "Surprise the Media: Re-Elect Bush."

What planet is this person living on? All anyone has been talking about is how doomed the Dems are and how much everyone loves W and blah, blah....honestly, how someone this disconnected from reality can manage to function on a daily basis amazes me.

13. well, a batting average of .290 does get some elected to the hall of fame.
but cooperstown is not the west wing.

these numbers are only a snap-shot. the power of a $200 Million campaign bankroll, right wing attack dogs, and an obsequiese press will narrow any gap by november 2004 to +/- 3% for bush versus any opponent if past is prologue.

this is why any, even a small advantage for a bush opponent needs to be exploited now and every day until november 2004 and negativity and attacks between the democratic candidates now running should be avoided IF possible.

folks, we got us a marathon, not a sprint, and we better remember that when we castigate our fellow democrats as wiennies.

i believe that the most important thing to focus on is recapturing the white house for shaping the federal court system. presidents come and go, judges remain on the court for decades. they define what the laws are and shape this culture more than politicians ever do during their terms in office.
