""The most heroic word in all languages is revolution." --- Eugene Debs. |
|
Why is revolution "heroic"? Who determines when a "revolution" begins? Why do revolutions happen?

It's standing up to the powers that be for what you think or know to be right and fighting for your cause against all odds.
Look around you at what the current regime has done to this country, the complacency in congress and the media, and you will see the seeds of revolution.
When government stops working for the good of the many and instead works to bolster the good of the few, it is the right of the citizenry to take back their executive power and invoke the right of revolution against the tyrannical government.

2. According to Eric Hoffer |
|
one of the main factors is that a revolution or major change cannot happen with a depressed populace. There is little interest in or time for politics when the main concern is basic survival.
This is worrisome as economic conditions continue to deteriorate here in the U.S.
According to Eric when the populace gains some economic freedom then they begin to examine their overall condition. This has been borne out in the former U.S.S.R. as economic conditions changed.
I can't remember which book, it's been a while. Eric Hoffer was LBJ's favorite author.

4. Disagree with that; it's only when people have nothing left to lose |
|
that they will be willing to risk standing up to the established power structure; witness the French Revolution and the communist revolution in russia. I think that this fact is actually "a good thing" wrt america's future, because as the situation for the average american becomes ever more desparate, they will become more inclined to fight back.

"one of the main factors is that a revolution or major change cannot happen with a depressed populace. There is little interest in or time for politics when the main concern is basic survival."
A revolution occurred in India when the populace was depressed and struggling for basic survival. South Africa? Germany in 1918? Russia?
