How sweet is the fourteenth amendemnt? |

It's the result of the civil war. It's the symbol or the North's defeat of the South. It doesn't allow states to strip individual's of their rights. I love it.
Right-wingers are still livid about it to this day. They think they should be able to do things like own slaves and outlaw birth control.
"Section. 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws."

the 14th amendment is the excuse made by the supreme court in a case in 1888 in order to recognize a corporation as a person, and granting them the same rights as you and me. this is where the corporate takeover exploded...it gave us corporate personhood http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Santa%20Clara%20County%20v.%20Southern%20Pacific%20Railroadbut other than that, yeah the 14th amendment kicks ass

to govern actions of the states. That includes applying separation of church and state to practices of the states.
But the Constitution is only as good as the SCOTUS that interprets it -- and with Dubya's recoronation, the Constitution is threatened via Dubya's likely SCOTUS appointments.
