"Tyranny of the Minority"
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 04:22 PM by ResistTheCoup
What's even more ridiculous than the wingnuts frothing at the mouth over the "Christmas under attack" nonsense are the DU'ers who are feeding the beast.

While you're separating yourself from the "politically-correct" nonbelievers, you're aligning yourself with the "religiously-correct" right-wingers. Be sure and check out the article below: "Heathen Rage Against Christmas" - because if you're a left-winger, to them, you're still anti-Christian.

From my blog: http://positiveblasphemy.blogspot.com/

The "Tyranny of the Minority" continues...

The right, especially the religious right, who now enjoy complete control of all branches of government, are still not happy. They continue to play the "victim" card. This time they are the "poor, persecuted Christian majority", who are being victimized by the 'politically-correct" minority. In actuality, they are on a crusade to impose their "religiously-correct" view of America on the rest of us. Their hubris is truly mind-boggling.

Here are a few examples of their latest meme: "Taking Back Christmas"

"Heathen Rage Against Christmas"
(This one's my favorite. It's by a freelance Christian writer and it's got lots of hate-filled Bible quotes justifying the destruction of liberals and other non-believers. )

"We'll Take Christmas Back Where It Belongs"

"Taking Back Christmas" by Cal Thomas

"Conservatives Aim to Take Back Christmas"

"Now, the Theophobes" by Tony Snow

"Theophobes are trying to steal Christmas"

"Christmas Under Siege: The Big Picture" by Bill O'Reilly

1. The "Plen-T-Plaint"
goes on and on and on inside the Right Wing Echo Chamber.

Bringing back the Fairness Doctrine would go a long way to defusing this garbage.

4. The hyperbole of these charges
is given huge volume by the concentrated ownership of the media by wingnuts. Christian ideas have, even without the enormous media boost, a dauntingly large support structure in the various churches in the US. The complaint about tyranny of the minority is a whipped-up exaggeration aimed at convincing people to do away with separation of church and state, the fairness doctrine, 'judicial activism', and the like, as it pleases the right wing; as we have seen, when the time comes to reverse their approach, they will move as a column toward a policy exactly opposite(as with the vote to shield Tom Delay).

So, as a result of the victimization of the dominant religion in the US by wild eyed leftists, citizens must be inundated with religious appeals and warnings nonstop, as redress for the harm done way back in the 60's, or going all the way back to the Scopes trial. Schools must teach it because Sunday, etc. in church is not enough. It amazes me that Democrats can get caught up in this ridiculous mock outrage.

5. A slightly different perspective on the matter
I wrote a somewhat lengthy reply on another thread about this issue earlier to day.

Here's the link to it

8. Actually I think we pretty much have the same perspective
and I agree that they have been emboldened after the recent "election". An example of that is in one of the editorials I linked to: "Heathen Rage Against Christmas". Here is an excerpt:

"Who can remember such an all-out attack on Christmas as we're seeing this season? Whether it's national magazines running "special issues" that "disprove" the Christian gospel, local schools decreeing that classroom cupcakes may not be served on red and green plates, or chain stores evicting Salvation Army Santas, it's everywhere you look.

Why?

Some of it must be sour grapes over the presidential election. Their guy lost. Worse, he lost to a man who describes himself as a believing Christian and is widely accepted as such. The Anti-Christian Left is outraged by its defeat at the hands of a rabble of ignorant rednecks out in Jesusland, and they're taking it out on Christmas.

Some of it's due to the fundamental misery of liberals, and their need to slather it onto the rest of the human race. Maureen Dowd had an unhappy Christmas as a child, so she hates to see the rest of America revel in the season. Liberals always seek to translate their personal demons into public policy. "I had a bad marriage; therefore marriage is a wicked institution, and it ought to be abolished." Examples of this kind of "thinking" are too numerous to be listed here."

etc., ad nauseum

6. The Chimp Himself closed his press confence today with "Happy Holidays"
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 06:28 PM by KrazyKat
In fact, he said it twice at the end. And once at the opening. Check the transcript.

Wonder how the persecuted fundies feel when their figurehead doesn't say, "Merry Christmas?"

7. GOP two face
You know from last September that the GOP has two faces. Their moderate one that they like to show quite often, and another side they like to hide most often to rile the base.

NBC News had all the anti-Merry Christmas stories last week, but there is no mention of this whatsoever. No report so no hyproacy.

9. Taking it back? You can have it, help yourself.
It really hasn't been all that useful to me anyway. Enjoy.
