Could Bernard Kerik have been a blessing in disguise? |
|
Before Kerik withdrew his nomination to be DHS secretary, our local paper was just in love with the guy. (The fact that he was in the 82nd Airborne--a unit which can do no wrong, according to the local rag--and was married to our Clerk of Court didn't hurt.)
Now that he's pulled out, every day has carried a new revelation of some of the shit he's done. They haven't gotten to the Mafia ties, but today they admitted the Taser Inc. stock transactions. And a few days ago they even discussed his little love nest in NYC.
They also told us that the White House claims to have known about most of the things he did.
Which leads us to the obvious question: is the Kerik fiasco going to cause Congress to conduct real investigations and ask real questions of Bush's nominees?

1. Somehow I don't think so. |

They WANTED a legbreaking thug. They'll just find some loyal grunt with no history to be the new head of the SS... I mean HSS, homeland security services.

Indeed. Bu$h said so today in his "press briefing." Bu$h ended up by saying something to the effect of "we are vetting, we are good at vetting, and we will keep on vetting." I suggest we substitute "fucking" for "vetting." Bu$h and Rove do not know what "vetting" means (I mean -- look-it! -- Cheney "vetted" himself for Prime Minister, er .. VP). But they damn sure know what "fucking" means.

4. Could be a tipping point. I hope so. |

This is so bad, it has to raise real questions. After all, this was the guy that was supposed to "protect us." HAHA. What a joke! The press is uncharacteristically inquisitive on this one. Maybe they just forgot to hook up their IV Xanax.

Sometimes I think we should actively support any nominee who can ultimately besmirch and abase Bush and his dictatorship.

6. No, not even to his mother (RIP). But he may be the "straw" |
|
But only if the press grows some spine.
