It may not be the worst scenario in the long run. The rich will be gone or not rich anymore. 23. We'll go the way of all other empires

We'll over extend ourselves militarily and drive the country bankrupt to the point where it can't afford to maintain it's Empire. We'll suffer humilitating military defeats around the world (Iraq and wherever they decide to go next) and will show ourselves to be powerless to defend real threats to our national security. Other parts of the world (China, I would guess) will emerge as more powerful economically and then soon thereafter militarily.
As you can see, we are well on our way.
