"A lucky shot?" This really makes me sick.
Not wanting to give any kind of props to the "insurgents" most of the spinmeisters are spinning today's attack in Mosul as a "lucky shot."

How lucky do you have to be to hit 500 soldiers under a Halliburton tent?

No one wants to talk about the US weapons that a number of Iraqis (excuse me, "insurgents") have hoisted from our military. They have night vision equipment, missiles, rifles, and you name it. Whatever we gave them during training is now in the hands of the "insurgents."
But we must not discuss those things. If we don't mention it maybe it will all go away.

6. My young nephew spent an entire year in Mosul.
He just got back to the States in March and out of the Army in May. I am almost shaking with relief that he isn't still there.

2. Iraqis are refining tactics
Mortars are hard to stop and the Iraqis will probably being using more mortar attacks as this occupation continues.

4. Let's not talk about the Local National Iraqis who work in the mess hall
...either. Or the ones who work in other locations around the base.

If someone is there to tell you where to point your launcher, it makes the probability of success much greater. i certainly wouldn't leave it down to "luck" -- unless I wanted to minimize the situation.

And I think they DO want to minimize the situation.

5. It appears to be suicide bomber now
Latest reports are talking about a suicide bomber and not a rocket or lucky hit.

7. I wonder if the 4 mortars that hit the fortified base were also
"lucky shots."
