Fox's R. Murdoch builds home in godless anti-Christian China!

Having bought a new home in New York, the city that is the centre of the world's media outlets, Rupert Murdoch is also building a house in Beijing, the gateway to the media market of the future.

The executive chairman of News Corporation has bought property near the Forbidden City in the Chinese capital's political and diplomatic area.

The Hong Kong newspaper the South China Morning Post, which he once owned, says Mr Murdoch is building a large house in the siheyuan courtyard style deemed to embody Confucian thought.

The 2000-square-metre home will have two storeys underground and is being built with traditional grey bricks and roof tiles, including some materials from the original house on the site. The purchase comes as Mr Murdoch is buying a new home in New York, moving from the fashionable SoHo to staid Fifth Avenue, where he paid a record $US44 million ($57.5 million) for 20 rooms.

News Corporation declined to comment on the Beijing property, but a permanent base in China would make great strategic and personal sense for Mr Murdoch and his third wife, Wendi Deng.
