Put the Holy Back in the Holidays
So now the liberals have taken Christ out of Christmas. Ah, the power we have to demand 250 million Americans do our bidding!! It will be Happy Holidays we say, and so it was done!

Funny thing, driving back into my teeny town I noticed the decoration hanging above the little 2 lane highway. You know the ones, the 40’s era lighted gold garland that spells out “Merry Christmas”. Except, oops, it says “Seasons Greetings”. My little logging, fishing town on the coast must have been infiltrated by the Commies all those years ago. Or maybe Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings used to cover the entire holiday season, from Thanksgiving to New Years. Oh yeah, I think it did.

That we have grown as a nation to recognize Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, African-American and other holiday traditions, ought to be a testament to the strength of religious freedom in this country. Religion was meant to be separate and unhindered by government, in order that it would freely flourish and the people would find personal spiritual enlightenment that would nurture their morals and values. They would then take the morals and values, not the religious doctrine, into the citizen government.

Examining the conscience is a Catholic religious tradition. One more or less asks themselves, ‘how’m I doin’. I wonder how that would be legislated? And, what questions would we ask this year? Will we meet the moral responsibility to care for our elders, widows and children, the disabled through a solvent Social Security system? Will we meet the needs of the sick with affordable health care and prescription medication? Will children go to vibrant schools that fill their minds and spirits with the fruits of literature, philosophy, historic figures, scientific discovery, as well as music and the arts? Will women and children be safe from violence, in their homes and on our streets? Will wars be fought only to protect ourselves from imminent danger? Will we work with nations to place the needs of every one of God’s children above the desires of a few? Will we stand for the right of every human to be treated with the utmost dignity and respect, free from threat, degradation and isolation?

What will we fill our hearts with this holiday season? It strikes me that quibbling over the correct greeting to utter smacks of “making clean the outside of the cup and platter, while they are full of extortion and excess”. My spiritual teachings lead me to believe that Jesus might well prefer a holiday season. Holy Days, the origin of the word holidays, are meant to be a time of spiritual renewal and rejoicing. Maybe it is time to put the “holy” back in holidays and each look to their own spiritual belief in doing so.

Happy Holidays.

3. Holidays meant Holy Days???
Wow!!! Could've fooled me. They keep telling me I'm supposed to go buy all this neat stuff on my picture box and they just rave about the sales during the holidays. Are you sure Holidays doesn't mean corporate profit days.

4. It is so sad..
.. that Christmas has been made into a political agenda by the neocon movement. What happened to the spirit of Christmas; peace and friendship, family joy and happy celebration together?

Now, if you say Merry Christmas to someone, the friendly wish may brand you as having a political meaning by saying it. The same goes for Happy Holidays, previously a way of telling the recipient to have a nice time. And just that.

It's the agenda of the revolutionary to tear down tradition by politicizing it, thus turning the last precious few moments of family friendship into a battle of politics.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas, folks! :-)
And if your folks happen to be too influenced by this conservative movement, try to get them to agree not to bring up politics during Christmas holidays.
