Well, Here's What I'm Gonna Do
On election day 2003 I am going to take off work, assuming I still have a job in November of next year, and I am going to volunteer a ride for anyone who needs it to their voting place. This is just a little thing but with my wife being one of the 3.7 million who has fallen off the unemployment rolls, though still actively seeking a job, and isn't even counted any more so this is a household which isn't much able to make a contribution to anyone.

The next thing is much more important. I am going to deliver one voter who would not otherwise have voted to the polls. I will cultivate at least one young person to vote for anyone other than Bush and I will take them to the voting place. If one out of 10 of you will do the same thing Bush will not win.

Thom

1. Good idea!
I'm working on getting people to vote right now.

BTW, for those of you who can't take off work to drive folks to the polls-go to your local Dem. headquarters. Bet they can find something for you to do, like phoning people to remind them to vote and to ask if they need a ride. I've done that before, and it also helps.

2. This is fabulous!
I have recently begun to believe the statement, "Voter apathy will be the downfall of this nation." When people get back to the polls and vote their conscience, then and only then, can we claim to have a truly representative government. Until such time, all we have is rule by an elite few...ignoring the needs and beliefs of the populace!

Get 'em and haul 'em to the polls (better yet, convince them of their need and obligation to vote)

3. We need you, buddy
If we can find a few more like you, West Virginia will tilt blue again in 2004. Wouldn't it be cool if the state propels a Dem into the presidency?

Good luck, I love your enthusiasm.

4. Well, that's a start................
make sure you stick to your promise when the time comes. It's a while off yet and sometimes good intentions fall victim to Father Time.

5. Get a head start and start registering new Dems
Try the homes for the mentally disabled and homeless shelters. If it has a pulse, register it!

7. I did this last year ...
It was very rewarding.

I drove a little old lady to her polling place (a high school). Turns out she was a school administrator for 40 some odd years in that district (she was an ~80 yo black woman). When we walked into the school everyone knew her and stopped to talk to her. Even the kids in the school seemed to know who she was. Their behavior (you know like normal kids) seemed to straighten out when they saw her.

We ended up staying there about an hour after she voted, because so many people took the time to talk with her. It was an absolutely inspiring experience.

Of course there was the really drunk guy who left an awful smell in my car for weeks after the election.

Cheers
Drifter
