Technical question.
I still don't understand the deal about posting pictures in a thread. If I link to a picture, like this, is it causing bandwidth problems for somebody? Is it a copyright problem?

1. A number of issues
If a thread gets hit with an increasing number of pics then there can be a serious bandwidth issue for some. Also a linked site might take issue with the pic being linked without permission. And it does take a toll on the DU servers as well.

2. What you do is direct traffic to the host site of the image via your
link to it. The better thing to do is place the picture in a repository that you control, e.g. webshots.com. Then link to that version of the picture.

3. This picture creates traffic at the hosting site?
Being only an amateur geek, I don't know how this works. Every time somebody opens (looks at) this post with this picture in it, it causes a link to that site?

4. A lot of sites have limited bandwidth per month
They get posted to a popular site and their entire months bandwidth can get chewed up in a day. This is an imfamous problem at www.slashdot.com. They can actually kill entire sites just from a single reference there. Several million geeks simultaneously trying to go to the same site can crush servers. Not a pretty thing.... all those geeks.... crowding around ...... oughta be a law or something....

The picture is at CommomDreams. Every time someone clicks on this thread, Commondreans takes a hit. depending on the site that may or may not be a problem. It is best to assume it is a problem and put the graphic on a site made to post from.
I pay less than $30 a year for the photo site I use.
i.e. less than $2.50 a month.

7. Cool. Thanks.
That is the info I was looking for.

I have access to a website, and I think that if i download the photo to my computer, then upload it to the website, and link to that, it should be OK?
