I'm a relatively new poster to DU
and I just wanted to thank all in the DU site for making me feel so welcome.

My posting attempts have been received with respect and I have had many very kind comments for which I thank you.

As I have noted I am a recovering Republican, but your reception has been more than I could have expected.

To each and all in the DU universe I wish a loving and very peaceful and Happy Holiday season.:toast:

I'm sorry for the boy, but it doesn't sound like PC amok - what would you suggest the solution be?

18. That's the least of our problems. Here's what your pals do:
http://www.hillel.org/hillel/NewHille.nsf/0/0830d81b3651235685256f020051436f?OpenDocument

Working with the ADL, Hillel of Georgia has helped University of Georgia cheerleader Jaclyn Steele retain her position on the football squad after she alleged that she was demoted to a lesser position because she refused to participate in Bible study sessions and other Christian-oriented activities. Head cheerleading coach Marilou Braswell was fired in the wake of the incident.

In its statement in support of Steele, University of Georgia Hillel Director Shawn Laing wrote: "UGA Hillel: Campus Center for Jewish Life applauds Jaclyn Steele for coming forward and notifying the University of Georgia regarding the difficult issues she faced as a member of the UGA Cheerleading squad. We commend the University of Georgia for systematically addressing the issue of religious discrimination on the cheerleading squad and for following well-crafted administrative procedures for assuring its students equal treatment and due process. As the Center for Jewish life at University of Georgia, Hillel not only exists to provide vibrant Jewish programs to 1800 Jewish UGA students, but to also work together with groups of students from all faiths and backgrounds to insure a campus community that promotes brotherhood, cooperation and advancement."

62. Yes I did and were they ever glad about it!
I have this great grass hay that was grown over in The Big Hole Vally in SW Montana. It has lots of tasty weeds in it and my goats vastly prefer it to alfalfa.

It's better for them too, because they are wethers I use for packing and it doesn't cause urinary blockages like alfala can.

Do you have goats?

No link. Suspicious story.

Some kid shows up to a dance in an inappropriate costume and the principal tells him to go home and change. We only hear one side of the story, and it claims anti-christian bigotry.

Typical grade-A baloney.

47. As of 2002 I just could no longer stomach
the GOP, being a vet (as I said in an earlier post, you would not believe how easy it is to fall into a conservative mind set if you spend a long time on active duty) and I just could not stand Clinton's personal moral standing (did a lot a good as turns out though) also going to college helped a lot to open my eyes.

54. again
wording sounds like one who has been around to see whether or not folks are "here long"...

funny thing, though, is the policy that you are focusing on one of the "key" ones - the whole PC thing is so early nineties. Only folks still hung up on it are the right - the left let the whole issue drop at least 8 years ago. As it was it was a shortlived University based movement that tried to codify civility... found that it wasn't effective and brought a big backlash. Heck - the back lash has already lasted twice as long as the original (dead) movement.

57. Welcome Wisc Badger
and ignore the sideshow. The only folks who get in trouble are those who seem to intentionally disrupt. The issue isn't disagreement, as much as intent to disrupt, hijack, or ridicule (and our friend jack was busy doing that elsewhere.)

The rest of us range from moderate to liberal (and some of us vary on which tag depending upon the issue) - we do yell at one another from time to time... and sadly sometimes the freeper tag gets frivolously hurled. As long as you don't consistently spout Hannity type talking points or link to news items exclusively like the National Review you should be okay from the mods.

I welcome those who come here with a shared distrust/dislike of teambush - to share opinions and information. When we arrive here from different paths - all the more to learn (in terms of divergent motivations, interests, etc.)

Have two moderate republicans in the family... they aren't comfortable with all things bush - but they can't break themselves from the GOP habit. Given your own self-proclaimed "recovering" status - what pushed you out of the camp for good - any thoughts I can pass along and see if that helps my relatives (who are already teetering) along? Thanks and again, welcome.

I don't think freepers posted all of those deleted messages. You can get deleted if you post anything democratic, only post very liberal comments and you'll be fine. Before I thought deleted messages meant a repug was posting stuff like 'kill the arabs and jews', but that's not the case.
