Franken's Book: He's Gotta Be a DUer! |
|
I'm halfway through "Lies..." and I swear, it's a friggin' litany of DU anti-BFEE gripes! This guy (along with 'Team Franken') doesn't miss a thing. I'd love to see him tete-a-tete with Hannity or O'Reilly now--of course, that'll never happen. But, I'd sure love to see Coulter or any of the other RW pundits he skewers try to refute Franken's methodically catalogued list of their lies.
How many other DUers have read this brilliant book?

After all of the buzz I've seen here, I can't wait. I have two $25 B&N gift cards. Anyone have any suggestions on what else I should pick up?

And I am psyched to read it. The second chapter is titled Ann Coulter: Nutcase. There is also a copy of O'Reilly's voter registration card. :kick:

I've read it twice now, the second time to try and absorb the facts a little more. Who has read Conason's "Big Lies"? I'm about to pick it up and I'm wondering about it's goodness.

|
book is Jerry Hightower's 'Thieves in High Places'. Hightower's book is red meat. I'm reading it now. He really nails the BFEE.
I've read just about every book written by the left in the last 2 years and these are among the best. Oh, almost forgot Alterman's 'What Liberal Media'.

20. I read Big Lies first. |
|
It basically covers the same issues with more depth and without so much funny. Actually, Franken thanks Conason for writing a book that he just had to add jokes to.
"Big Lies"- Highly recommended.

I read it. although there is good info and insight in the book and I do recommend it to people.... I found that the overall "tone" whined a great deal about how he was "duped"

but it's just funny to me how mainstream sees franken as some left wing nutcase and to me, he's a sarcastic moderate who sees the bush cabal for what they are... i don't see him as a leftist... ESPECIALLY since he supported the war...

It's funny that he considers himself a liberal--I think he's more a left-leaning moderate. He's probably reacting to the contrast effect we've all experienced, where we've been made to feel "extreme" by people who are extremely right wing.

Certainly not buying his book for information or education. It wouldn't tell me anything I didn't already know about Bush, Fox News, and reTHUGlicans.

32. I remember an Al Franken SNL Weekend Update skit from 1988... |
|
...which combined a "bar bet" stunt w/ wishful thinking. The "bar bet" stunt was the ability to draw the US (by individually drawing each of the 48 contiguous states) in under 2 mintues (which he did), combined with a commentary on how Dukakis would win the election electorally because of liberal affiliations, et. al...
Searching for the SNL transcript now...

As far as some type of debate, I would love to see Limbaugh, Coulter, Hannity et al challenged by "Team Franken" of some sort..it would be a ratings blockbuster!!!!!!!!!!!1

I don't think it's his style. His humor doesn't work in a debate and that's what he's best at. IMHO.
The debate I'd love to see is Conason and ANY right wing loonie.
As for other books don't forget the oldies but goodies: The Hunting of the President and A Vast Conspiracy. Everyone should know the history of what the right wing did to Clinton.
And yes, Blinded by the Right and The Clinton Wars are must reads.
I'd also like to think that Franken is NOT a DUer. That way I know lots more than just us are picking up on all the crap.

|
He actually credits bartcop in his book, so he might just read that.
There are tons of funny parts that we've discussed, but remember from the Hannity chapters when he's ridiculing that ridiculous chart from "Let Freedom Ring" that supposedly proves that Clinton was anti-military? He lists the number of new tanks requested by Clinton and Franken points out that after the Cold War, the need for new tanks was much less and he designs a chart that compares how many horses Reagan requested (3) and how many Lincoln requested (hundreds.) See? Reagan was anti-military, too.

26. Franken's book is great! Iran is the BFEE's next target you must read |
|
"All The Shah's Men" by Stephen Kinzer...about the Iranian coup of 1953 and how our CIA and Kermit Roosevelt did their dastardly deeds on the Iranian people...reads like an exciting page-turning spy novel...except it all real .....it deals with the hard issues of today!
Brit's and we Americans should blush with shame
