Atheist Group Wants To Participate In Parade Of Lights

Next Year's Parade Participants Not Yet Chosen

POSTED: 12:41 pm MST December 23, 2004

DENVER -- An atheist group has asked permission to enter a float in next year's Parade of Lights, a lightning rod for religious controversy.

"We want to be included for once," said Robert Tiernan, spokesman for the Freedom From Religion Foundation.

Tiernan wrote a letter ths month to the Downtown Denver Partnership arguing that a "winter solstice" float should be chosen instead of a Christian one in 2005.

"If Christians were treated the way we are, they would be freaking out," he said Wednesday. "Christians want to be involved in everything. They want Christianity included in private parades, they want to flaunt it everywhere, and it's disgusting."

2. Truly. I think I
might have to stick around. Hopefully these folks will get their float.

3. Either way it will be much fun watching the elite Christian thugs squirm..
..at the idea. Keep in mind that they just prevented Hickenlooper from changing the downtown sign from 'Merry Christmas' to 'Happy Holidays'.

4. I heard. I had to go to
Colorado Springs last Friday. Every third car had a "Real Men Love Jesus" and some kind of "Proud Gun Owner" bumper sticker. That town creeps me out.
I did notice that the highway sign for Dobson's complex wasn't there anymore.
