Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 10:36 AM by OneTwentyoNine
Tafanelli, R-Ozawkie, is a lieutenant colonel and leads the 891st Combat Engineer Battalion, which is based in Iola and has about 650 soldiers. The unit received mobilization orders in July and spent nearly three months training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Tafanelli, 43, said the unit's duties in southern Iraq will include patrolling, helping to rebuild roads and clearing explosives.

1. Send more elected republicans...and those not elected too! (Bush)
I really have no problem with elected officials being sent to the front line. Not a one.

4. Wonder if he'll still be supporting Bush
at the end of his tour? As a state rep, he may think he has some pull to get through to Shrub and tell him how everything is being done wrong in Iraq. It would be interesting to see his face when he finds out he-and his opinions-means squat to Bushco.

16. I bet his unit will get their armor before going in ....

... because the last thing they need is a disillusioned Republican Colonel on his hands.

BTW, aren't officers supposed to be apolitical??? Shouldn't active reserve/guard officers run for as independents as opposed to within a party???
