Rumsfeld's visit to Iraq and Bill Kristol's call for his resignation tell
me that a struggle for power is taking place behind the scenes. All the other partners in crime, Perle, Wofowitz, Libby etc. appear to be lying low waiting for their turn.We may very well see some heads rolling soon as Rumsfeld gets deeper and deeper into the quicksand.

1. It could be.
But whose head? Rumsfeld's departure has been predicted by the Washington Times -- hardly a liberal rag -- and this publicity stunt in Iraq yesterday and today isn't going to change the tone of the war one iota.

The others -- Perle, Wolfy, etc. -- are all implicated in the same war, aren't they?

Who would replace Rumsfeld at Defense?

3. Answer.
McCain would replace him, safely preserving the GOP senate majority 54-46, and giving McCain a national stage to work from for a second failed run for Prez.

4. Hi, Zeke.
If McCain replaced Rumsfeld, wouldn't Democrat Governor of Arizona J. Napolitano (sp?) more likely appoint a Democrat to replace him?

Would Bush/Rove/RNC let that happen? They still have the majority in the Senate, but in closely disputed bills, they would be weakened, especially with a lot of GOP senators edgy over the budget excesses.
