So far, Saddam has been more correct about Iraq than US intelligence.
He told us that Iraqis would fight us in the streets and that we would see our soldiers lying dead on Iraqi streets if we invaded. We seemed to have underestimated other people's love for their own country and we seem to have forgotten (if we ever really learned them)the history lessons concerning "occupation." Think how great Israel would be right now if it weren't bogged down in its own dirty occupation. We are headed for the fate of Israel and Russia and quiet as it is kept, the fate of Great Britain. Pulled down morally, economically, and spiritually to the lowest levels of occupation and human bondage. We are on the road.

1. it's really just a matter of time
when will a majority of Americans decide they have had enough? I predict it will take a vast majority, what with the media in the hands of the right wing. Of course, I think that what we are seeing now is a realignment of other powers-China, Europe, Russia, Latin America-to join together. When they decide to, they can pull the economic plug, and down we'll go.

3. Hopefully
it won't take as long for the majority of Americans to wake up as it did during the Vietnam War.

4. "We told them so . . ."
The whole world tried to warn the bush crime family that invading Iraq was wrong. We were called a "focus group" by Der bushita.

We can look to our our history -- the red coats a.k.a. the British lost to the home court advantage.

Invasions rarely work -- especially one that was done on the cheap and little of any post invasion planning.

I fear things will get a whole lot worse in Iraq before the damned US corporate media will bother to reveal some of the facts about what is happening in Iraq.

Those of us who have given up on CNN, FOX etc and turn to the Internet for our main news source generally know "things" days, weeks or months in advance of people who only listen or watch the corporate media.

We also tried to warn the US administration that Vietnam was pure folly that was killing thousands on each side --- but we were ignored until it got so bad that the only option was to leave via the roof top of the US embassy.

5. Just curious- if the people fighting our troops are Iraqis who love their
country, then what is your take on the people who side with the American forces- those being the Iraqi police and new Army?

earmarks of a smartass post. If it was truly sincere, then I apologize.

10. I wonder what % of DU'ers would consider them traitors.

I see choosing either side as choosing out of fear, and desire for your way of life succeeding.

14. They both *apparently* love their country
They just came to different conclusions as to express that love. Some decided to collaborate with US forces believing it is best. Others decided to attack and kill US forces believing that it is best as well. The traitor is decided by the victor. That depends on how the war ends.

15. What Iraqi police?
Haven't you heard that most of them have deserted, won't fight orther Iraqis? You mean the Kurds and Shia?

What exactly would you say about American who were fighting an occupying force within our borders? Would you fight the Americans siding with the invaders? If not, why not? As soon as the Shite become the ruling party see what happens to their support of Americans. They are every bit as ruthless and maybe more so because they are religious fundamentalists, as Saddam's people were. They just didn't have the wherewithal to fight. Iraqis are Iraqis first. They will do what they have to survive but don't fool yourslef into believing that what we have done to their beautiful country and the many Iraqis that we have killed will go unanswered.

16. Some have deserted, but plenty seem to be dying in lines while
applying for positions.

If Americans were fighting an occupying force within our borders, it would depend on whether I felt the American Govt. or occupying force
was the greater evil.
