What's the latest in Cali?
Does anyone have a recent poll? I think Davis is going to be recalled, so I'm wondering if Bustamante is beating Conan. He was the last I knew, but I haven't seen a poll in over a week. Does anyone have a link?

I apologize if there are any threads on this that I didn't find. I did look. :-)

1. I don't know, but I got my sample ballot
and Angelyne, "entertainer" appears on the first page. She may get some votes.

It's actually hard to find Arnold's name, because logic would say "look for the longest name" but they have him sandwiched between two guys whose names are actually LONGER! And are both Jewish! Interesting ........ He's between Lawrence Steven Strauss and George B. Schwartzman.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, actor and businessman. YEAH RIGHT. I'd like arnold to prove that he doesn't have a business manager do all his business dealers. He just takes the credit. I'm sure he cleans his own house, mows his own lawns, and prunes his own roses as well.

It's a fucking joke. I think Mary "Mary Carey" Cook may win, actually. She's been getting a lot of press. Most people would rather look at her tits than Arnold's ugly face anyway.

3. Mary Carey has also given specifics. . .
about what she'll do to reduce the budget deficit: Raise taxes on breast implants and use porn stars as ambassadors of goodwill to bring business into the State.

It's not much, but it's more than Conan the Deceiver has offered.

5. You forgot one very important thing
Mary Carey would put cameras all around the Governor's Mansion and create a pay-per view site featuring them, for both Californians and non-Californians.

7. wouldn't that be hilarious if she won as some sort of protest vote?
I mean, with page after page of "candidates" it's not out of the question.

9. It would...
...but unfortunately, Bustamante and Ah-nold are in the race, meaning that the winner will have to get 20-something percent of the vote, and that lower-profile candidates won't win. Too bad :( - Camejo, Arianna, and Georgy might have had a chance otherwise.

2. Cali?
Edited on Sat Sep-06-03 01:29 PM by BrotherBuzz
Is that Colombia or Mexico? In California, we use Ca, Cal., or Calif.. Sorry, It's one of my pet peeves and I seem to be reading it a lot lately. To answer your question, I have seen no current or accurate polls. Radio surveys are crazy and tend to be scattered all over the place - no true trend at the moment.

on edit: Some of the different surveys I've heard on the radio demonstrate that we don't know what the heck is going on:

¥Bustamante 37%, Ueberroth 30%, the rest trailing...(McClintock is one weird duck)
¥Arnie and McClintock split 50-50 with the conservative vote (Arnie had a 2/3 lead over McClintock before debate)
¥Recall closing to less then two points and could go either way...(Davis was the one winner of the debate)

No wonder they call California the land of fruits and nuts!

11. Fifth Generation Californian
and I never heard the term used till this year. I really do think of Mexico and Colombia when I hear Cali, and don't favor it used to refer to California. Sorry, I'm from the old school and don't use 'Frisco' or Sierras either. Just my opinion.

12. First-generation Californian...
...and I call the state Cali at times. For the record, while I live in Oakland, I lived 3 years in Frisco. And on another note, I think that the Sierras are beautiful, but the Freepers there with the "Sierra Club - kiss my ass" bumperstickers are not.

14. Going Back to Cali
Was a song by LL Cool J, released in 1988. The nickname has been around for a while. I like it.

18. Ditto
It seems most people who call it "Cali" are ones that aren't from there. I never heard it til I moved to VT (Hey! You're from Cali? Can you teach me to surf?)

4. Dean was just on CNN with Davis bashing Bush.
Davis said that the loss of jobs in California since Bush was Prez has caused the revenues collected to pay for government to go down.

15. Thx for the info.
I just hope that at the end of the day, we don't have Repub in office over there, or anyone else who would support Bush.

17. Latest poll I can find is a regional one on the debate
Poll Names McClintock as Winner of the Debate

A News10/SurveyUSA poll found that 30 percent of California voters felt McClintock won the debate. Twenty-two percent of those questioned said Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante was number one, while 12 percent named Peter Ueberroth as the winner. Arianna Huffington was favored by nine percent of those surveyed, while three percent said Peter Camejo won.

The poll showed that Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to skip the debate may have been costly. Fifty-five percent of voters felt it was the wrong thing to do, while 37 percent approved of the actor's absence.

19. Internal Polling
we do --and the Unions are very sensistive about passing this out so I can only give you nonnumber details except what we already released to the press last week--- show that the recall is ahead by some 3 percentage points, but that it's WAY behind among likely dem voters. Remember we are a majority here , and everyone is cooling out for a final media blitz the last two weeks of Sept.
Bustamante has a comfortable lead among candidates and McClintock is solidifying the conservatives so his numbers are rising. He looked "Not insane" which was quite helpful to him in the debate.

So to recap:

Recall ahead by slim margin ---last released #s 51-49, current ones a bigger spread

Bustamante leading depite Arnolds ad blitz. Last released numbers show him ahead by 5.5%
Our internal polling shows that lead solid and growing;dems are getting energized.
This is going to come down to turnout. California DUers, pleae make a point to vote and encouracge all dems you know to do likewise.
