A question here, if I could have some input
I live in MI
Kerry won MI
Conyers is from MI
My husband and I wrote letters to both of our democratic senators urging them to step up to the plate to help conyers. We told them we will be watching on Jan 6, 2005 and told them there is consequences for no action. We meant that. If they do not act, what is the recourse? Now the question is how do you get out lame dems and get new dems in without losing to the repubs?

1. They are weighing their options and their support. Most politicians will
compromise their principles (if they actually have any) for political advantage: the next election. There are damn few exceptions to this mindset on either side of the aisle. Unfortunately. But it's what works, so it's what they do.

Look, the SAFEST thing a congresscritter can do is deliver benefits to hir own state (which is, after all, the primary job they're elected to do.) It's the job description. To protect the interests of their own constituents (the legitimacy of which is a different discussion)

Voters are more interested in "where's the pork" than "where's the beef" these days.

2. I can only hope
that others from MI are doing the same and emailing them. I would think that they would want to help support others from the same party and state.

3. I decided something

I was not voting for anyone who supported the war in Iraq, which ended up being one of my senators... stop supporting those who do not support you! I will keep my promise to myself about not supporting politicians that are not promoting peace in the world. I will not support politicians that do not support freedom and true democracy in this country also.

Support those who support your causes and your ideology

Yes, I could do just that and not vote if they do not make a stand. But would that not leave the door open for the repubs to get into the dem seats in which they do hold now?
