Costas-Gravas movie "Amen" |
|
now playing on TRIO (315 Directv. I'm sure it will play several more times in the coming weeks.
It is about 2 men who tried to get to the Pope and get him to speak up and condemn the holocaust of the Jewish people being conducted by the Nazis.
It is a really great movie and sad also. Both men ended up dying. One of the men was a German SS officer who didn't want to abandon his country but was desperate to stop what was going on.
Have to say it is a sad indictment of Catholicism (I am Catholic) and other Christian Church leaders of the time.
I am posting here because I do think it is relevant to our times more than ever.
Two brave men never gave up trying to get the truth out and stop the atrocities.

"The Statement." Excellent movie with Michael Caine as a French ex-Nazi (and uber-devout Catholic). Tilda Swinton plays the lawyer trying to bring him to belated justice.
Fictional, but it works in a lot of historical facts about the network of "safe houses" etc. provided to Nazis courtesy of the Catholic Church.
