Most Underreported Stories of 2004
Eleanor Clift has her own list over at Newsweek. But here are some of my personal favorites from Project Censored:

Reinstating the Draft: "The Selective Service System, the Bush Administration, and the Pentagon have been quietly moving to fill draft board vacancies nationwide in order to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. In preparation several million dollars have been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget. The SSS Administration must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation. The Pentagon has quietly begun a public campaign to fill all 10,350 draft board positions and 11,070 appeals board slots nationwide.

Bush Administration Manipulates Science and Censors Scientists: "In Washington, D.C. more than 60 of the nation’s top scientists, including 20 Nobel laureates, leading medical experts, and former federal agency directors, issued a statement on February 18, 2004 accusing the Bush Administration of deliberately distorting scientific results for political ends and calling for regulatory and legislative action to restore scientific integrity to federal policymaking.

The Media Can Legally Lie: "In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States.

1. If Bush brings the draft back
after categorically saying it wouldn't happen in the third (or was it the second) debate would once again expose him as the liar he is--it would also bitterly divide this country like nothing else.

6. Well, it will only be "special skills"
You know, you'll be safe because he's only going after those doctors and nurses who are too selfish to sign up and maybe some of this IT people who are too selfish to sign up and you'll be perfectly safe, right? Besides, we can't go on like this. Perhaps he didn't realize how bad it was getting when he promised not to reinstate the draft, but since that draft won't be after you and me, we can forgive him, right?

Yes, I'm a sarcastic old bitch, and I know Bushbots well.

2. If Bush wants to bring back the draft...
Why aren't the saying anything and getting ready for it now?

Why wait until June!?

I'm sure they need more soldiers in Iraq.

3. Boy Howdy...
the draft would upheave this country! But, it might be the shake up needed for people to realize that Republicans have lied to them all along. It's easy for people to slap a ribbon on their car and go about their merry ways, as long as it's somebody else's kid - a kid that volunteered, dying over there.

4. The civil war in Congo.
3.8 Million people have died since the civil war began 10 years ago. The killing and dying continue while the UN peacekeepers go underfunded and undermanned mostly due to the neglect of 'Murka and Europe.

It goes almost completely unreported by our "democratic media" that is more intent on keeping us up to date on Janet Jackson's nipple or who Brittney Spears is kissing or marrying.

Stories about Africa don't sell enough SUV's to warrant notice.
