6. Real Jesus
The real Jesus welcomed homosexuals, unlike the Bushite religious right bigots.

16. The real Jesus welcomed anyone and everyone. Homosexuals, lepers.
prostitutes. I don't consider myself a Christian but have studied early christianity and pagan religions in the academic world. Jesus's greatest teachings were perhaps the Sermon on the Mount and this one; I always loved this one "So as you do it unto the least of these, so you do it unto me"

7. Actually, probably the worst enemy of the fundies are...
themselves. Nothin like a whole room of religous bigots all thinkin they are right, so everybody else is wrong. Look at any theocratic culture..its basically a rabid group of various self interested parties each trying to destroy all those that do not agree with them. Just being a liberal or a progressive doesn't make you special...you could be a Sunnite, or a Shiite or a Lutheran or a Baptist, it don't really fuckin' matter - they need somebody to hate and hate always ultimately turns on the purveyor of it and destroys them.

8. It is a good question
It's clear they are in the process of overreaching--this christmas stuff was just the start. They want what they want and they want it now--so I think it will be a combination of their own arrogance and the libertarians/moderate republicans that will end up derailing them.

They are their own worst enemy. Their inherent hypocrisy will be their downfall.

10. I also voted other
I think the Fundies will do themselves in. Hopefully, that is sooner rather than later.

12. "Other" was my vote as well
True Christians are going to wake up. One day they will be reading their Bible and something in it wil click with them.

They will realize the RW fundies have misconstrued their core beliefs and they will become liberal Christians.

20. My vote was for Other, too
"Other," and in other Christians like myself, who see the Religious Right for the fraud and sham that it is, and who object strongly to the bastardization of the Christian message.

There are, I think, more of "us" than "them." It's just a matter of coming together -- and I am quite certain that it will happen much sooner rather than later.

Improve peoples' material conditions and they'll no longer seek comfort in scapegoats and religious fundamentalism.

14. Freedom From Religion Foundation and the American Humanist Association.
Edited on Mon Dec-27-04 10:47 PM by no_hypocrisy
Founded in 1978 as a national organization of freethinkers (atheists and agnostics), the Freedom From Religion Foundation, Inc., works to keep state and church separate and to educate the public about the views of nontheists.

Since its founding in 1941, the American Humanists Association (AHA) has served its members as an innovative organization that initiates social reforms and launches new programs. Many significant developments in the fields of human rights, the control of population growth, sexual equality, civil liberties, education, science, alternative technologies, and humanistic psychology—which are now commonly practiced—were first introduced and advocated by Humanists and the AHA.
