I just created a petition concerning Bush and tsunami relief
The main URL is http://www.PetitionOnline.com/jps4757/petition.html. Please sign it and if anyone here with a web page would care to take it over and refine it, make it better and able to reach more people, feel free to do so. It is entitled "tsunami relief efforts" or something like that. In it, I ask President Bush to donate all or part of his 40 mil for the inaugarual ball to help those people. I somehow doubt it will work, but it's nice to vent sometimes.

4. Thats really none of your business but
I gave $50.00. I am a simple working stiff and cannot afford much more. Are you going to contribute? I hope so. This a tragedy beyond belief.

10. don't get it
i guess the thing i don't get is, in the face of such mind boggling tragedy, people here IMMEDIATELY did 2 things:

1 - try to play it for Political advantage. ( why would that even enter your head at a time like this? ) you should be embarassed.

2 - ask SOMEONE ELSE ot spend money to help. Why not just send your own money to help and be done with it?

11. Not quite

Not actually. The IMMEDIATE things were need for information about the disaster, then empathy with the victims, then shock as the numbers rose, then a need for more information--and THEN the political stuff, as Bush seems sooo slow to open his wallet.

> 2 - ask SOMEONE ELSE ot spend money to help. Why not just send your own money to help and be done with it?

What do you know of who gave and who didn't?
Look at the top of the page...

12. I did spend my own money
But I also think the shrub would go a long way toward healing the rift if he donated his inaugural party fund to the tsunami relief fund.

And think about this, if a Democrat had been re-elected, the freepers would be all over us with this idea. I am just playing their game here.

19. I did send money
and I think many DUers probably did also.

I can only speak for myself regarding the playing it for political advantage claim. But I am outraged that * is down there on that 'ranch' of his in Texas, clearing brush, riding his bike, probably playing golf and has made no public statements. Shows his lack of sensitivity, IMO.

And how in the world can you not see the idiocy in a $40 million dollar party while 80,000 people have died?

8. Donate Your Lunch Money, Bush
http://www.indystar.com/articles/4/202746-5224-021.html

----------------
President Bush said, "As I have told many families I met with, we're doing everything we possibly can to protect your loved ones in a mission that is vital and important." In fact, until Wilson's question, we obviously were not.

That brings us to the final headline: "At Bush Inauguration, Lunch Will Set You Back $250,000."

This is a lunch with Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, obviously exclusive to the high tax brackets. There will also be a "Salute To Those Who Serve," with free tickets for the military.

The arithmetic is too tempting. It costs $25,000 to fully armor a Humvee. Each $250,000 lunch ticket could go straight to equipping 10 vehicles, so our reservists and Guards in Iraq won't have to ride around with homemade sandbags on the floor.
----------------

Neither humvee nor tsunami shall receive mah lunch money!

13. I just forwarded this to 50 activist friends.
Here's how to get a lot more signatures fast:

Go to google and search for "Democratic Clubs" + your state (or other states). Find contacts for each club and e-mail to them all, with a request to forward your petition.

Try other activist organizations, too, like working families, etc.

Go to other progressive websites and post this link at as many blogs as possible.

Go to major news sites and register to post messages on their blog sites, too.

Go to the media blaster here and forward your petition to the foreign media. I'll bet the Guardian in London would run this!
Try selected liberal media here, like the Village Voice.

Once you've got tens of thousands of signatures, send it to the mainstream media, too.

How about sending it to some Christian sites, just for the fun of it?

Seriously, I'll bet that church in Austin where the minister preached a sermon warning of fascism would pass this around for his congregation to sign.

Good luck!

and if others will do it, then more power to you too. As I stated, I am just a simple working stiff who wants to make a small difference.

14. Signed and put following comment:
"I lived in Thailand and know many Americans working there. I am sure the number of US citizens dead or missing is drastically higher than the current reports. Donating a portion of your inaugral fund rather than putting on this ostentatious circus is certainly more humanitarian and definitely the right thing for our world community."

17. more $$ for Asian relief...
Simple. Privatize and corporatize the effort. Once *'s corporate cronies get a chance to make little profit off the effort billions would pore into the disaster effort. War and disasters make great profit centers for the Halliburtons of the world.
