Shutdown of the net

Am I going off on a limb here? What is doing the most damage to PNAC? The internet.

How much longer are they going to withstand the movement online? Was the power crash a beta test? How far will they go to protect their interests?

Has anyone else had probs hooking up to liberal sites recently? I have. Strange tough DOS like attack situations.

I think this is something that needs to be discussed. I don't think that the plan written by Wolfowitz and his cronies took into account how much the internet would play a role in disseminating his information.

A thought.

Any ideas?

No doubt the net will be shutting down soon. the programs are in place, waiting for thier orders.

2. I've noticed when using AOL

it has become difficult to reach some sites (had most trouble with guerilla news network)

11. Launch your Internet Explorer at the bottom of your screen...

My neighbor and I have far less troubles (i.e. "script errors" and "This program has preformed and illegal operation and will be shut down" messages) with IE...

12. This is a good point

Some of the trouble you might be having in getting to a particular site could be because of your browser. Almost everything works with IE, but if you're using Netscape or something else try IE and see if it works anybetter.

BTW, this is NOT an endorsement of IE. Just an unfortunate truth.

3. They'll stop at nothing

And if that means starting blackouts and clogging the internet with viruses (then blaming it on a 18 year old hacker in Wellstone's Minnesota) THEY'LL DO IT. Inflicting multibillion dollar losses from blackouts and internet outages only advances their agenda.

The 18 year old admitted to writing the virus. I myself am hoping they throw the book at him, but it'd be even better if they'd just give every sysadmin five minutes alone in a room with him, no questions asked.

faster than you can say "impeach." But yeah, you'd better believe that as long as the Internet can be an alternative to even mainstream propaganda, it's certainly possible. Don't be surprised if it becomes the subjects of one of Tom Ridge's "Operation Duct And Cover" high terror alerts. For the security of everyone, of course, he'll have to unplug the 'Net to prevent terrorists from sending coded E-mails or something. Or maybe he'll come up with an extra special virus...

7. I don't think it would be in the form of a systemic shutdown

I think it's more likely that this would take the form of shutting down various sites (like this one) with some sort of trumped-up national security charge.

They'd do it in a New York minute if they thought they could get by with it. I'm certain they're planning various ways to carry it out.

The Internet is much more diffuse than the Airline industry. Anything that does serious damage to the Net is gonna likely take most other forms of telcom with it. I can't see anyone seriously considering attacking the whole communications grid.

8. I don't see how.

Even countries like Saudi Arabia and China that have a LOT more control over their piece of the Net can't keep those who want from accessing just about anything. I suppose you could take out the root DNS servers but not all of them are in the US and even then alternatives could be set up outside the country fairly easily. Hell, if you have a site's IP you don't neccesarily even need DNS. Taking out the US's communications backbone might do it, but that would shut down just about ALL telcom, not just the Net. You could take down specific sites via DoS attack, but that's pretty limited in scope. All-in-all I think the Internet is probably not going down anytime soon.

the net but they will chip away at the free speech aspect by passing laws on copyrights-which has happened, such as the record ind. going after downloaders of music,and john coyner`s "accops" bill-(google-accops).of course there`s always the sevice providers that pretty much can limit what flows thru it`s servers..

a convenient way to spread misinformation and to
monitor what the current attitude of the people is.

popular left websites may be tainted by subterranean connections to the
CIA. Almost all of them write little about 9/11 and won’t even entertain
the notion that the tragedies were generated by forces within the U.S.
government, making them suspiciously useless in my mind.
