"India rejects foreign aid for relief work

Wednesday, 29 December , 2004, 14:01

New Delhi: India has turned down foreign aid as it has "adequate resources" to provide relief to victims of a deadly tsunami that killed thousands of Asians, a government official said Wednesday."

On the Ray Taliaferro programme today I heard one caller rant about how much aid was given to the Asian countries and when there were problems in Africa, no Asian country camwe forward with aid.

He was wrong, but Ray did not correct him.

India has been an aid giver to many many African countries and also the place where the low cost generic drugs for Aids was developed - which US companies tried to block. Many Affricans have come to India to study Engineering, Medicine and Sciences.

Now, even under these dire circumstances India has said NO to aid, especially aid with strings attached!!

(Sarcasm on) Let the Bushites spend their money killing more Iraqis!!! As they sow, they shall reap. (Sarcasm off.)

5. It id not because of any strings

but the American fAdministration is very anxious to know the operations systems being used by the Indian armed forces in the region.

Vishakapatnam and Port Blair in the Andaman Islands are strategic outiosts for the Indian Navy, especially the nuclear powered submarine fleet.

The main intention is to keep out prying eyes from that region which could be through the US Seventh? fleet!!

Additionally, the foreign exchange reserves of India are as high as they could be, so they do not need to depend on a weak dollar to prop them up.

Further they want no obligation to BushCo at this point of time as they are playing a co-operation game with China at the moment and could cause the global turn-around causing the US economy to be in their grasp at any point of time.

BUSH AND HIS MALADMINISTRATION HAS RUINED THE AMERICAN ECONOMY, THE AMERICAN EDUCATION SYSTEM, DECIMATED IT'S ARMY, SPENT MONEY ON ABSOLUTELY USELESS WEAPON SYSTEMS - AND THE INDIAN AND CHINESE ARE FULLY GEARED TO EXPLOIT THAT AT THE DROP OF A HAT!!

And for a pitance of tied aid of US $ 35 million to be shared amongst many million affected people, no sane politician would accept any aid from the US!!

However, te Indian Government is co-operating with several NGO's in the field of emergency relief.

8. Cost of living is low as food, housing, public transport are low.
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 11:07 PM by jmatthan
Wages are related to the cost of living - and not a reflection of a low standard of living.

The IT workers that you are refering to are extremely well paid.

If in the US you were asked to pay the same energy costs as we have to pay in Europe or even in India, your cost of living would soar and US would become even more uncompetitive. This is because energy plays a very large part in the cost of living index in the US, but that is not so in many developing countries.

However, the issue is more complex than just this, but if you want I can prepare a detailed paper on this based on several of the parameters involved.

9. "They" don't pay their people low salaries...
the US and European companies who've moved jobs to India pay them the low salaries. If American companies paid American wages, what would be the point of moving the jobs?

11. If you moved to India
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 11:13 PM by jmatthan
you could live a better life with those lower wages than you do in the US today.

The problem of outsourcing in IT is not the low wage structure but many other parameters including a large educated labour pool, a good infrastructure, etc.

Americans have to reduce their cost of living to become competitive again. That does not mean a reduction in wages but better government administration of the costs that make up the costs and reduction of wastes.
