chimps ineffective action of the day
establishing a "regional core group" to help coordinate relief efforts.....why the fuck not just provide relief directly? there are plenty of agencies already on the ground doing the work, seems to me this is just creating a new level of bureaucracy while people are dying....

http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/12/29/bush.quake/index.html

CRAWFORD, Texas (CNN) -- President Bush said Wednesday that he has formed an international coalition to respond to the massive tsunami disaster along coastlines of the Indian Ocean.

<snip>

"Clearly there wasn't a proper warning system in place for that part of the world," Bush said. "And it seems like to me it makes sense for the world to come together to develop a warning system that will help all nations."

(bringing the world together? he's a wiz at that....btw - how many of his friends companies are going to be involved in building the warning system?)

<snip>

Mentioning the $35 million in already-pledged U.S. aid, Bush said the United States is a "very generous, kind-hearted nation, and, you know, what you're beginning to see is a typical response from America."

(i thought our typical response was to blame an elusive individual and then invade a foreign country?)

<snip>

Bush also announced that the Pentagon is "dispatching a Marine expeditionary unit, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and the maritime preposition squadron from Guam to the area to help with relief efforts."

(oh wait, there's our typical response....)

1. let's send the Navy to invade Sri Lanka
kick 'em while they're down, its the American way. We do it to ourselves, surely we'd be successful having a go at that little island. And the rest of the "coalition of the willing to battle tsunamis", too little too late there Georgie. Knee-jerk reaction.

2. junior has to make sure everyone gets their cut
Doubt if half the aid money makes it where it's needed.
That's why it's better to donate to a private cause, you can then write it off on your taxes, the gvernment (us citizens) end up paying for it anyway.

3. Bush scolds the Asians
when Sept. 11 happened, did the Sri Lankan president come out and tell us that the U.S. wasn't properly prepared?

If Bush had in charge over in Asia before this disaster, would tsunami preparation have been a priority for him?

5. If they gave it to existing organizations
the Mepukes wouldn't be able to skim a nice tidy sum into their pockets.

7. Sounds like he's stealing Clinton's idea about a main entity to
co-ordinate.
I heard on the BBC this am that actually, relief efforts are really a mess, no one knows what anyone else is doing and some of the aid isn't getting to where it should be going. Individual country efforts are just not being as effective as they could be.

That being said, I'm waiting to see if this "international coalition" that the jerk is saying he's forming is actually being formed or if this is just another PR statement uttered to counteract Clinton! I think Bush has "Clinton envy"--what a little asshole he is!

8. Clearly wasn't a proper warning system in that part of the world!!!
Gimmee a break!! Most countries in that part of the world are doing well to keep electricity and water running in the parts where they can do so, let alone warning systems for quakes and tsunamis.

Do you reckon he's drinking again?
