Robert Novak: "Unlike Bill Clinton, Bush doesn't jump in front of a camera
...to say "I feel your pain"......"

DISGRACEFUL. Rove evidently has made his phone calls to get his talking heads to keep repeating this disgusting comparison.

barf and raise you a "Well, someone had to say something".

But seriously folks, I'm pretty sure the Big DAWG (how I love that name), was asked a question and then he answered. I don't know if he called a press conference or not.

But, to get back to the first point, someone had to say something, and I would rather it be Bill than George. At least he has a world-wide approval rating (good). And, he's not an idiot. How sad is that the "greatest country in the world" has to rely on an ex-president for dignity? (Not that it's a bad thing).

My thinking is that Bush* & cronies work in dog years. Therefore, Clinton was president only .71 years ago (rounded up). Practically a flash in our lives!

Aid must be co-ordinated, says Clinton
Former US President Bill Clinton has called for the co-ordination of relief efforts in response to the Asian quake, as aid starts to flood into the region.
"It is really important that somebody takes the lead in this," he told the BBC's Today programme on Tuesday.

Clinton is just freakishly brilliant and charismatic.

He is in the 1%. I had forgotten that until his spectacular speech at U. of Ark. last year. He is a freak of nature in a positive way, and the balding bitches of the GOP are so jealous they pee themselves whenever he's on the scene.

I thought of that picture as soon as I heard the sneering bush "aides" complaining that Clinton hurried to get in front of cameras.

So typical of little boys--their guy was unconcerned for days, as he walked with Laura, chopped brush and had guests over for the holidays.

It is a riot how Clinton sticks in their craw, even after a first term is finished.

22. Actually there is
money to be made in tragedy. Think about Halliburton just slavering at the bit to "reconstruct" the areas devastated. Think about them building back the hotels, etc. so they can then house their employees in luxury. Water purification? You bet. For those resorts that cater to Americans. Clean beaches? Of course. It would be "icky" to have to swim/tan/surf where dead people "might" pop out of the ocean.

I'm done...

padded with power here they come
international loan sharks backed by the guns
of market hungry military profiteers
whose word is a swamp and whose brow is smeared
with the blood of the poor
and they call it democracy

14. Because Bush is always on vacation...
My problems with this:

1. We're not talking about a minor shopping mall closure or something. The death toll is around 100,000. Making a statement, as the leader of the free world, is appropriate, if not expected, in this case. It just would have been nice if he said something earlier, politics aside.

2. Novak? Since when did anyone care what he thought? I wish we'd get him off the air for now.

3. Let's not exploit a international tragedy for the sake of anti-Clinton rhetoric. I don't know why it even matters. This issue is about here and now; Clinton has not been president for four years. Why is he still part of this political discourse? Because the Repukes can't blame anyone in our government for their incompetence (the Repukes control the government...), so my guess is they want to blame this government's incompetence on old governments. Who knows.

4. 35 billion? We had to then go out and correct Bush's mistake. "We're only giving $35 million, not $35 billion." Funny that the press conference was supposed to dispell the myth that the United States was stingy.

I love it.

:puke:

a White House official said: "The president wanted to be fully briefed on our efforts. He didn't want to make a symbolic statement about 'We feel your pain.' "

Many Bush aides believe Clinton was too quick to head for the cameras to hold forth on tragedies with his trademark empathy. "Actions speak louder than words," a top Bush aide said, describing the president's view of his appropriate role.

53. Bob -- both you and the President are PAID to "jump in front of cameras"
... and say something intelligent and reassuring when a crisis occurs.

And, quite frankly, Clinton is better at this than both Novak and Bush. Part of a world leader's duty is to communicate sympathy and support using the media (or as Bush would put it, "the filter") to people at home and abroad. Being distracted because you're on vacation or reading a goat story doesn't cut it. With a disaster of this magnitude, other Presidents would have been addressing the nation within 24 hours, telling people what is going on and how they can help.

And also, sniping at a UN official who was urging all industrialized countries to get moving (and not slandering Americans, as the right-wingers seem to think) looks petty and self-centred. Novak and his colleagues should smarten up.
