Donate the Inaugural Funds to tsunami victums |
|
Imagine (fantasize is more like it) a true act of compassion and leadership from the "leader" of the "free" world.
The President of the United States cancels all inaugural activities saying that he doesn't need a big parade and lots of parties and then designates the $40M or so that would've been spent for tsunami disaster relief.
He announces plans to take the oath of office in a small, quiet ceremony at the Capitol.
He goes on to explain that it would be wrong for a religious, caring nation to spend hundreds of billions on war when there is such suffering in the world. The President states that one cannot justify an appropriation of another $80B for the Iraq War vs. $40M for tsunami aide and pledges to see that Congress divert billions from war towards helping the billions of suffering poor.
The world cheers...then you wake up and it's time to go to work.

3. Only Jimmy Carter would have done this. |

I could imagine Jimmy Carter transferring private inaugural contributions to the tsunami victims. Of all the high-profile self-proclaimed born again people, he's the only one I actually believe.
