Carlin beat the media
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 09:40 PM by Must_B_Free
think about this - by making the announcement that he was going to rehab of his own accord, he totally defeated the media.

Had he not made the announcement, it would have come out anyway, he would have appeared to be hiding something and it would have been a story. Also they would have had a snickerfest on FOX and used it to demonize all liberals further.

Instead, he appears honest and responsible, which he is.

3. Have you seen Dogma, the movie?
Edited on Wed Dec-29-04 09:32 PM by GregD
I watched it last night on Comedy Channel. Carlin is a priest. Movie deals with angels stranded on earth, trying to get to a church, and eventually to light off armagheddon. Amusing movie, but in the end it only served to freak me out about the times we live in.

And yes, I agree, Carlin's actions served to uphold his dignity. Good for him. Did you see him on CNN around the election? He's totally given up on politics, knows the whole business is as corrupt as it gets.

on edit - scotch and typing. hell, I can't type this thing to say I corrected a type.

4. George Carlin has been marching to the beat of his own...
drum for his entire life. It's why he has such a unique view of the world around him.
No surprise that he stayed ahead of the tabloid feeding frenzy that would have accompanied this story's ultimate release.

6. A letter in the Orange County (CA) Register
A different standard applied to Carlin

Comedian George Carlin announces that he is checking himself into drug rehabilitation because of an alcohol and prescription-drug problem . More power to him. I don't seem to see anyone asking that this man be subject to criminal prosecution; I haven't seen news that the state is asking for medical records about his prescription-drug abuse.

Does this make it easy to see the different standards for different people with drug problems? Can you say "Rush Limbaugh"? It is because of this and so many other instances that the relevance of the media is declining.

13. How can this asshole even compare this to pigboy's illegal activities.
I get the impression that george was legally prescribed the pills from a doctor, unlike Rush sending his maid to pick them up in a gas station parking lot.
Oh, he's from OC. That explains a lot.

12. I have always loved him
I remember in the 60s and 70s he was the best. Him, Steve Martin, and Richard Pryor.
