Poll question: Last election between candidates who would've both been good president?
For obvious reasons any election involving Nixon, Reagan or a Bush has been omitted

1. I went with '76 by default
Ford was hardly a radical and it's hard to imagine he would have been any more overwhelmed by the job than Carter. Ford might have gotten along better with the Dems in Congress as a matter of fact.

5. Well, went with Carter/Ford because they were both centrists...
a good thing concerning Ford and a bad thing concerning Carter. But still not really much of a good thing.
As a left Democrat, I certainly prefer Carter the FORMER president.
Also, I will NEVER forgive Carter for bringing the "born again" nonsense into the political dialogue. Never.

6. Ford - he had a great wife too. Betty was outspoken, pro-choice
talked about her kids having premarital sex, make breast cancer something to be spoken about, not hidden. Ford was a conservative but not a nut like Reagan. And if he had had similar circumstances as Carter, Dems, not Repubs, might have held the presidency 81-93.

7. One reminder about Ford
Donald Rumsfeld was HIS Defense Sec'y too, and Dick Cheney had a fairly big job in the admin. Ford employed, whether unwittingly or not, these neocon nutjobs while Chimpy was still snorting lines off Babs's teat.

9. Ike vs. Adlai

Eisenhower was the last really good Republican President. Heck, he was barely even a Republican.

Stevenson would have also been a terrific President.
