Indian Express questions CNN/BBC coverage of Tsunami
Can CNN, BBC get away with this corpse show in ‘sensitive’ Manhattan?

After 9/11 they chanted privacy, sensitivity; Asian disaster open season to show bodies of men, women, children

Six months after 9/11, a CBS documentary on the attack on the Twin Towers censored visuals of a woman burning to death. ‘‘The image was so terrible,’’ a programme producer at the US channel explained, ‘‘I made a decision not to film it. It’s not something anybody should see, or want to see.’’

In the aftermath of the worst terrorist attack on American soil, the networks were remarkably correct. ‘‘Sensitive coverage’’, ‘‘respectful of victims’’, ‘‘no violation of privacy’’: the buzzphrases flew thick and fast.

Until last week, they even seemed believable. Unlike the aftermath of 9/11 — when not one dead body was shown on screen, not one ghastly image recorded for posterity, and about the only objectionable visual was of a man jumping to his death — Asia’s tsunami is open season.

1. Their rationalization is disgusting. Racism alive & well. As always, it is
up to us to dig out the truth. Thanks for posting the link.

2. They are certainly showing a lot of bodies
Quite a bit of a double standard in reporting.

3. Does a double standard
between "us" and TROTW (the rest of the world) surprise you? There has always been an inverse relationship between the distance to a disater and the magnitude of that disaster necessary to make the media.

4. I don't think racism has a thing to do with it

They are now inoculating the American public to being shocked seeing dead people as they gear up for even larger atrocities in Iraq, floowed by Iran and Syria.

5. It's also interesting to note ....
they aren't showing the thousands of dead civilians in Iraq either.

6. Death certs with NO CORPSE
were issued in New York.

Governor Pataki suspended New York law
in order to issue Cantor Fitzgerald's first 41 death certs
and then later everyone else's.

New York law says that in order to demonstrate a death,
you must first demonstrate a life.
Pataki said "screw that"
and issued an Executive Order that basically declares
"I say people died and that is all you need to know."

Asia ACTUALLY HAS DEAD BODIES for us all to see.

Most of the "victims" of 911 STILL HAVE ACTIVE US SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS
and several of the "victims" are listed as having died BEFORE 911.

Do not take my word for it.
Go to the CNN site -- or elsewhere -- for a list of the dead
and then go to a search engine and pull up the Social Security Death Index.
Start typing in names and see what you see.

And then maybe you will be able to understand why
ABCNNBCBS were NEVER able to show ANYTHING
but two sheets of paper attesting to the each of the 911 bodies
but they are most certainly ready able and willing
to show the actual bodies of those who died in the tsunami.

8. The Social Security claim is a red herring
A while back, I spent an hour with the 911 passenger lists and the Social Security Death Index. What I found was that all the passengers over retirement age were listed as having died on 9/11/01, and it was only the younger ones who were missing.

The SSDI doesn't list deaths unless someone in the family notifies them, and unless the deceased individual was receiving benefits, there's no requirement for a notification. So the fact that most of the 911 victims aren't listed is of no significance.
