Tsunami Aid - polls
Both CNN and the Globe and Mail (Toronto) have polls on their web sites asking if you've donated or will donate to Tsunami relief. At the moment

CNN Yes 19% No 81%
G&M Yes 74% No 26%

2. **Sigh** most Americans are simply filled with arrogance & selfishness
where on Earth did we go wrong? schooling? parental teaching? capitalism? right-wing control of media?

How in the hell did the majority of people in a land so immersed with good fortune, wealth, and supposed happiness, develop into a place filled with wretched, grasping, selfish, arrogant people?

In times like these I think of Babs Bush famous quote about not worrying her beautiful mind over thinking about body bags.

4. I couldn't watch the TV coverage and not do SOMETHING
I felt the need to do something, anything and the best thing I could think of was making a contribution to Doctors Without Borders. It disturbs me that so many people may not feel the same way.

6. That's what I was thinking, too. Maybe the poll result is a reflection
of how people's pockets are hurting.

5. How can you not want to donate??
how can anyone look at the footage or hear about the sheer amount of deaths and NOT give, even just a little? This will be the worst natural disaster of my life time, hopefully the worst this century, and one of the worst of all time. 120,000 dead right now and the numbers are still climbing.

7. Not quite
Their was the 1976 Tangshan earthquake in China, a magnitude 8 whose toll of lives varies between the official 255,000, and an UN estimated 655,000.

9. we have a large community
out here in Staten island and queens. we have a large hindu, and shri lanka community, they are placing lock boxes in all the stores in queens and taking donations. also they are making collections at the ferry terminals and collecting a dollar here and there. that adds up to lots of money. cause they get the people coming home from the city.

NYC is doing its thing. and the temples in my area are collecting food and clothing and stuff and money.

but it is right after Christmas so large donations may be hard for some of us (me). perhaps the donations will start after next pay day.

unfortunately people in red states are going to think these are all Muslims (evil,) jeez. how i wish they could put aside their predudice for 5 minutes to realize that these are human beings.

12. The satellite photos are astonishing--it wiped out miles of trees
well into inland. It might as well have been a bomb hitting the islands.
