Edited on Thu Dec-30-04 06:45 PM by Cuban_Liberal
Just heard this on ABC World News. Normal internet donations are $60K/month! God job, America!

4. That's good. CRS is a great charity.
At times like these, I always think of DeTocqueville:

“America is great because Americans are good.”

16. That's a great quote.
Sometimes, I believe in the rush to criticize Bush, people criticize and wish harm on the entire United States. At least half of the country is made up of good decent people, and it annoys me to no end that we are all lumped together as the "ignorant United States" or in threads that seem to celebrate any time something goes wrong here. It's as obnoxious as people lumping the French together.

6. The people of America remain fundamentally decent.
Too bad we can't say the same for our fearless leader.

7. This country is supposed to be run by us
This country can not be run like a giant corporation. Corporations don't have a conscious, feelings, or COMPASSION.

9. People can be basically good yet completely clueless and wretched
sort of like Ebenezer Scrooge--many Americans must be shamed into acting like they should. Because we live in such a wealthy country, many people become immune to what real suffering is. You would think 9/11 would have woken people up--but instead it made many hearts harder, and hence * wins an election by rights he should have lost.

13. isn't that the truth
the right wing and Bush tries to convince people that when people criticize HIM , they are attacking the country.

kind of like when we criticize him on war he tries to make it as if we are attacking the soldiers.

it's all an attempt to take attention away from his failure as a human being and to try to make the people think they are the ones being attacked.

11. Our parish's outdoor bulletin board was very straightforward today:
" 'Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these, ye have done it unto Me' Tsunami relief-- http://www.catholicrelief.org "

12. I am shocked
There has not been a single post on this thread regarding how horrible those Catholic "fundies" are, priests molesting kids, how the pope is an irrelevant misogynist fuckwad, or anything else that is said on this board everytime the Catholic church is mentioned. I suppose they're okay when you want to utilize their resources, but the rest of the time they can fuck off? And $2.4 million a day? Yes, I suppose all those posters were right: they only care about children when they're in the womb. Once they're born they couldn't care less. Sarcasm off.

14. CRS has already allocated $25 MILLION for tsunami relief.

That's from funds already available. I posted the story in the Catholic and Orthodox Christian Group here at DU and here's a link.
