I just think, to use a Chomsky metaphor, that a Martian browsing the Internet would be really impressed with DU:

DU'ers are kind
DU'ers are knowledgeable
DU'ers are compassionate of their fellow human beings
DU'ers support each other in times of need
DU'ers are funny
DU'ers are passionate
DU'ers are not about destroying but about building

I'm sure there are more...

Happy New Year to all DU'ers, even the flamers and the lurkers (they know who they are), best wishes for Happiness and Success (whatever your definition might be) and lots of Hope at the end of the Regime tunnel!!

4. the contrast in tone between DU and freeperville is telling . . .

almost invariably, DUers support the positive . . . peace, equality, justice, compassion, inclusiveness, interdependence, the kinds of things that seek a better world for all . . . equally invariably, freepers support the negative . . . conflict, discrimination, injustice, exclusivity, the kinds of things that breed hostility and a world at war . . . and they do it, for the most part, in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, while completely disregarding his teachings . . . which adds hypocrisy to their list of qualities . . .

I'm glad I found DU several years ago, I thank the posters here for continually educating and inspiring me, and I wish all a happy and healthy 2005 . . . and don't despair . . . despite appearances reinforced by the media, there really are a whole lot more of us (positive, forward-looking folks) than there are of them (negative, fearful folks) . . .
