Radicalized RWChristian "love" defined
as simply not using the word hate.

There was a very ugly local politcal case where a radicalized repub couple followed around several elected democrats doing vandalism, serving trumped up "affidavits", and calling in (to the radical repub candidate for sherrif who was then a member of the state police, rather than to the local police) a "suspected DUI" - a local dem official. Dude didn't handle it well (and had been drinking) and a big court scene follows months later. The dem's political career is over. But during the case all sorts of stalking behavior was disclosed about this couple (who then went on to do serious dirty tricks in the most recent congressional election)...

When asked on the stand if she (the wife) hated the dem in question... she said "No, I'm a Christian, I love all people..."

Has stuck with me for a year. Actions don't matter. Stalking, vandalism, threats, slander, dirty tricks... all of that is done... in the name of love. Of course not. But as long as one doesn't say the WORD hate... then one actually is obeying God's desire to "love your neighbor" (ie other people.)

Anyone else ever notice this very funky definition - or should I say disconnect between what love suggests/means vs how it is acted out?

1. Don't ask me why, but I was watching a TV sermon the other morning...

(for all of about five minutes)

I didn't catch the name of the woman doing the preaching (I could look it up I suppose), but she was using selective bible quotes to justify why "rules don't apply to 'real Christians'", and 'laws and rules are for heathens, not for us, we can do whatever we want because it's God's will', etc.

I should have recorded it.

The irony is they're the same group that wants to make new laws imposing their supposed morality on everyone else.

CHRISTIAN, n. One who believes that the New Testament is a divinely inspired book admirably suited to the spiritual needs of his neighbor. One who follows the teachings of Christ in so far as they are not inconsistent with a life of sin. - Ambrose Bierce

2. wish you had captured it
I really believe that there a whole lot of folks who are "faithful" and follow -but who do not see or recognize this side of their faith - and thus accept what the current political fear/push from the pulpit seems to be - with no questions. Understanding the degree of psychological manipulation going on - in part by understanding how some high profile "Christians" act and believe in ways that directly conflict with their beliefs - would have an impact on many.

3. Clear cut case of cult behavior
This sort of harassment goes on against the perceived enemies and apostates of several well known modern day religious cult organizations.

The rationalizations are always a bit bizarre.

4. One of the weird things some do
is harrassing gays with signs like "God Hates Fags".

Which always strikes me as so odd. THEY don't hate gays :eyes: it's GOD who does the hating. So they can maintain their illusion of goodness!!! and put all the blame on God like HE is the bad guy.

There was a case recently in Philadelphia where a group was harrassing people at a gay parade. They wanted to make it clear to everyone that God did not approve of their behavior. So they were reading whatever condemnations they could out of the Bible. In court it was referred to as "hate speech".

OMG - were they ever incensed about THAT. Some were also charged with felonies for trying to start a riot, etc. Many right-wing christian web sites carried it - Oh, what victims they all are for "trying to be good people". Aaaaarrrgh.

5. the Democrat should've taken a ballbat to both of them.
And filed harrassment charges against the pig.

These bastards are going beyond the bounds of what is allowed and always remember ... if one lives by the sword ...

6. Goes along with the "born again" concept
Many demoninations have, which is that if you take the Lord as your savior, you will go to heaven. Therefore, nothing that they do has consequence.

Of course, as President Kerry said "Words without deeds is death".
