1. But that was for Americans, the only really important people. There |
|
were also voters that really needed help.

got my FEMA check 2 days before Christmas. It's a long time to wait when you've lost your house, car and everything in them. Jeb Bush did a great job here with the crisis. I think it's one reason our state went to Bush (I voted Kerry but most people I know didn't). Jeb's approval rating was better than Arnold's! I've NEVER liked Jeb and hoped he'd screw it up, but he didn't. What did it for a lot of folks is that George rolled up his sleeves and handed out bags of ice, helped clean up the mess etc. Absolutely brilliant strategy on Bush's part! I didn't fall for set up but it seemed like EVERYBODY over 60 did!

5. The thing that's going to bite the Republicans in the ass is the |
|
issue of insurance reform.
I don't believe they will reform anything.

6. FEMA told to concentrate ALL resources on FLA - forget rest of country, |
|
or heads would roll at the Agency. Granted Florida needed lots of help and will for years to come - but there were disasters in other states which normally would have gotten a proportional share of FEMA assistance. Other regions were stripped of funds and emergency response personnel, which were sent to Florida. It wasn't Governor Bush who did a great job - it was FEMA. Jeb was the beneficiary of a brother in a tight political race. FEMA teams will be in Florida for the next two years - and I'm sure they are needed. The question is, what about disasters in other states in the next two years. I don't expect Bush to increase FEMA's budget to compensate for the needs of Florida. By the way, FEMA has hundreds of vacancies which are not being filled, and their funding has been stripped and diverted god-knows-where into Dept. of Homeland Security. If Florida had not been a key political state, it would not have gotten near the federal assistance which it received.

"I've NEVER liked Jeb and hoped he'd screw it up, but he didn't."
So because you don't like Jeb Bush you hoped he would screw up the relief effort in Florida? How thoughtful of you. I'm sure the hurricane victims in Florida appreciate this type of sentiment.

12. What are YOU talking about? |
|
You said that you hoped Jeb Bush would fail in delivering aid to hurricane victims in Florida because you don't like Jeb. Re-read your post and tell me you didn't say it.

10. I think that like most things the neofacisit bushies do, that there was a |
|
definite political motivation behind this action and that it was just another way (along with RIGGED voting boxes) to steal Florida again. But you believe what you want. Maybe you can see things a bit differently after reading some of the real facts and figures ands stories here at DU.

3. Stange that the only Senator investigating FEMA fraud in Florida |
|
is Bill Nelson.
There were many in Florida who needed that aid, however. My only fear down here is next season. With the weather patterns changing, I think things will get worse.
It will take years for the little beach town I live in to recover.

4. The tsunami made the hurricanes look like child's play |
|
If the US government doesn't cough up at least a $ Billion then we are not only stingy but also selfish.
The tsunami surely puts everything in perspective. Don't get me started about the 'severe weather teams' we hear about 24/7 on our local TV stations. I live in the Northeast where it is supposed to snow every winter and they make such a big friggy deal every time a snowflake is forecast.
