An Encounter with Senator Charles Schumer . . . by Alan Singer . . .

(snip)

At first, Senator Schumer demanded to know what I would do. I replied, "The Bush administration policies have destabilized that entire region of the world. I would work with European allies to find a way to leave immediately."

He accused me of being a "fool," and stated that if the United States withdrew from Iraq it would be subject to a terrorist attack worse than 9/11 during the next three years.

I responded that I thought the country was at even greater risk because of the occupation and wanted to know if he would resign his Senate seat if the United States was attacked anyway.

Now Schumer shouted "I know people like you." He accused me of being responsible for the destruction of the Democrat Party and said "with your ideas you should not be allowed to be a teacher" (He really said this!).

2. People act like that when they know that their reasoning is bogus
I wonder if he's one of the ones who's being blackmailed or threatened.

3. As a resident of New York I'm very sorry to hear that.
I agree with Lydia, though. I think he knows he was wrong, and responded with hostility because he was called on it. It might mean that he'll come around soon. It also might mean he's just a prick. I hope it's the former.

5. Thank you, Alan Singer!
Excerpt: I confess, I did not anticipate Schumer's aggressiveness, arrogance, level of nastiness, impulsiveness and closed mindedness.... He is a dangerous man.

I heartily agree and have posted many times here on DU about his (to me, at least) shocking speech of hate at a fundraiser earlier this year in New York. Amongst other things, he implied that all Arabs/Muslims "pray five times a day for our deaths!"

There were many Arabs/Muslims at the fundraiser to lend their support and I felt so ashamed to have these remarks coming from a representative of New York state.

Schumer's remarks sullied the event, except of course, for the Kool-Aid drinkers from which came a smattering of applause.

Don't like this guy at all.

6. "...for the destruction of the Democrat Party" ??? "DEMOCRAT PARTY"?
Edited on Fri Dec-31-04 01:05 PM by calimary
I always feel an alert coming on when I see that. "Democrat Party" is what republi-CONS call the Democratic Party whenever they want to throw another coded sucker-punch.

May be nothing, really. But it's something I couldn't help noticing.
