Study Relates Fast-Food with Type 2 diabetes
http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/1053.html

A study published in Lancet medical journal this week has confirmed what most of the doctors had suspected since ages. The study says that eating fast-food more than often predisposes you to Type 2 diabetes and heart troubles. It also makes you obese. This is the first time that a scientific study has statistically proven that fast-food is not more than junk for ones body.

The results were derived after 15 years of survey involving 3,000 young people enrolled in a study of cardiac health. The U.S. based team of medics that carried out the survey queried participants about their diet, physical activity and other lifestyle factors.

There are many factors that can predispose a person to obesity. Ands it is not so easy to pinpoint any one culprit. Scientist had carefully cancelled out other factors on statistical basis before they arrived at the conclusion. The study found that those who frequently ate fast-food gained 10 pounds more than those who did so less often. Such people were more than twice as likely to develop an insulin resistance.

and then there was this article:

Obesity a soaring problem among U.S. preschoolers

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- More than 10 per cent of U.S. children ages two to five are plagued with obesity, according to Thursday's reports of American Heart Association.

The percentage has been up from seven in 1994 to ten, according to the heart association's annual statistical report on heart disease and stroke.

The 10 per cent number comes from 2002, the most recent year for which figures are available, and the situation is probably even worse now, said Dr. Robert H. Eckel, president-elect of the heart association and professor of medicine at the University of Colorado.

"These statistics are not anything but alarming," Eckel was quoted as saying by AP.

3. I already don't eat fast food
haven't for (10+) years - grow most of my family's vegetables (love that seal-a-meal thing!) and gave up beef 2 years ago.

Hate going to the grocery store - reading all those labels - weeding out the corporations that support *Co, contain MSG (allergies), high fructose corn syrup (ADM anyone?) - and coming home with anything fit for consumption. It's exhausting. We prepare 3 meals a day and sit together for 2 of them (breakfast is scattered) - there are no restaurants within 15 miles, no movie theaters (we own a ton of vhs tapes) and very little social life (we do get lonely).

Read Fast Food Nation several years ago - what appetite was left before then was destroyed before the last page was turned.

Not really sure what the answer is, but wish that corporate farming was off the face of this earth.

from LBN to GD. We can't consider an article written by "Jim K" as an acceptable Late Breaking news source.
