This guy is an a**hole on C-Span
James Robbins, National Review contributing editor is talking about the insurgency in Iraq. Someone called in and asked why we were not showing the people who are killed in Iraq. And this moron said that yes, we should show the people who have been killed by the insurgents and terrorists. What about the thousands that our troops have killed?

8. In your link even the Washington Post seems to debunk
the number of 100,000. But I guess since we like embarrassing * it's an ok number to use, even if it is inflated.

10. I asked because we have a pretty loose idea of what facts
are around here. That survey doesn't sound very reliable. Then saying the annonymous "others" put the number higher isn't any better.

I think we latch on to anything that makes the US look bad. I don't like that. Just because I'm against * and the repugs doesn't mean that I think our soldiers are murderers.

see eye to eye on this . . . try this link. It is a more accurate number and is using actual 'counts' through hospitals, local officials and family members. Like you, I am more interested in the truth and the 100,000 number has nothing to back it up and is nothing more than a formulation based on unsubstantiated data. Anyway, here it is:

11. WP debunks 100000 because GOP object - say no one has seen death
certificates !

Of course a silly objection - but that is how the Wash Post works when told by the right wing folks that to do otherwise makes them biased!

12. Doesn't seem like a debunking to me.
More like a he said/she said squawking match, with some discussion of methodology.

It seems to me that it's basically a poll. Polls can be innacurate, but they're generally in the ballpark. I didn't see anything really damning to their case.

It's important to remember that it's an estimate, not a number. It should not be thrown around as fact, but it can and should be noted.

19. hey, I don't like embarrasing the son of a bush
I don't like to embarrass the little Son of a Bush Weasel, I don't even like to think of that war criminal at all, much less go out of my way to embarras him. My ideal would be if he would drop out of existence and memory all together. Even Nixon could say we'd miss him when he was gone, because, "who would we have to kick around" when he was gone, but this one dumb Shrub, nobody will miss, nobody will give him another thought. And that 100,000 figure is a very CONSERVATIVE estimate, according to NY Times, Lancet, CNN, MSNBC and every reliable source on the planet.

22. But their only source of information
is the Lancet study which is not based on factual information but a formulation based on unsubstantiated information. It's just not an accurate number. Look here:

5. I actually worked with him...
Edited on Sat Jan-01-05 08:49 AM by slor
at King's Island in the early 80's. We were parking attendants, and there was one day a Volkswagon "Thing" came in. I said "Kuebelwagon" which was the WWII German jeep, and which the "Thing" is clearly modelled after. He was impressed that I knew this and commenced to talking about the German military of WWII with what I would call a glowing reverence. He was an asshole then, and he still is. I tried to call in, despite being on Dec. 30th, to ask him if he still liked the Germans of WWII, and to ask him to put an end to the lie that there was a insurgency in Germany after the war. Sadly, I did not get through.

I may email him at new rethuglic magazine. I believe he may be Jewish too, judging by a response to one of the callers, which tells me that he was a very conflicted kid, considering how highly he thought of the Germans military from that period.
