"Well 1300 are dead in Iraq that many are murdered in NY, Chicago...
every year"

C-Span caller restated this relativism? How do you respond to non sequitors attempting to relate soldiers dying in war and those murdered in a major Blue State city to justify deaths.

2. laugh
I always use belittling because I'm such a nice person. HA!

In this case, I would simply point out that there are deaths everywhere and every day...............however those deaths in Iraq have no bearing on 'beat-crime' stats. Then, I would shake my head and say, "It's New Year's, so I understand. You have a hangover, am I right?"

3. "And those people being murdered there...
is wrong too. But those people are not being murdered because the government lied. What about the 100,000 Iraqi citizens who have died since the start of the war?"

CSPAN is no longer someplace where one goes to find sanity. Anything but.

7. disagree
about C-SPAN.

It is still a place to find unedited events. Just stay away from 'Washington Journal' and the like..............unless you have masochistic tendencies.

15. Your exactly right on! I've had to back off the Washington Journal
for a little while. Two weeks now. (I cheated a few times) But in reality with all those dimwits, nitwits and halfwits calling in with stupid right wing rhetoric, I find my persona changing to something I don't like. Ah yes, sanity is the word.

14. Exactly - several!
We need one massive bureaucracy to oversee it all, with a cabinet level position.

We need a war against transporTerror, with the accompanying media blitz and political frenzy.

18. bingo!
everytime someone tries to denigrate the deaths of soldiers and/or civilians in Iraq by some sort of inane comparision to deaths here by murder, etc. someone--all of us--need to reply with a statistic like the one you just gave.

That will shut them up.

How much better if you crash your car and need to buy another, eh?

Of course, this is the end result of deregulation, which I am sure you thought was a good idea at some point.

5. First of all, the number of murders in NYC
is below 600 per year.

Second of all, it is an absurd and obscene comparisons. More people die in accidents every year too, or by suicide, or by incompetent doctors, etc., etc...

I heard a defendant claim once that he didn't feel bad about a bystander getting killed in a drive-by because that person could just as easily been hit by a car, it was an accident.

Our tax dollars are paying for this.

regardless, the caller would have to factor in the millions in jail.....ostensibly, it's punishment that stops criminals from murdering more etc....ironically, one would have no problem factoring in the hugh prison population and geeb's goofy war on iraqi children....

8. Chicago+NYC = 1300 out of 9 million; Iraq: 1300 out of 150,000
Thus the US cities are 60 times safer than Iraq.

Ask any soldier in Baghdad if he'd rather be patrolling in NYC or Chicago! What do you think he's going to say?

regurgitate a repuke meme thusly: "How dare you denigrate the heroic sacrifices of our soldiers by implying that a war zone is as safe as a US city!"

on HEART DISEASE?

Obviously only a total fool of an idiot would give a fuck about a measly 3000 dead from a terrorist attack.

and based on what that person said in comparing soldiers deaths in iraq to murders in american cities then perhaps it was not worth going after saddam considering more have died under other dictators, many of them who are still alive and ruling today.

that so were Kennedy, Lincoln, McKinley, etc. etc.

And then that would make it okay?

Their reasoning skills are just so Christian-oriented that I can't

32. If you judge whether a war has accomplished its goal solely on
body counts, then WWII was a tremendous failure. I think the bottom line is, where will Iraq be when this is all over? Where will America be in terms of security? We have to look at the ultimate result of the war. No one can really say right now; we won't know until many years from now, in hindsight, what we are (or are not) accomplishing there.

If someone is going to talk about the total number of deaths in NY in Chicago, then they should also talk about the TOTAL number of deaths in Iraq, if they want the camparison to be valid.

But almost all of Iraq is peaceful and the problems are in only 3 provinces ;). Also i guess it doesn't matter how many Iraqi Police/National guard get there heads handed to them (literally). Oh and civilians pfft... we don't do body counts.

They tell the viewers that a kid has a better chance of being murdered in California than to be killed as a soldier in Iraq.
