Inauguration Who is Funding IT
Inauguration Fund Drive Draws Big Money

WASHINGTON (AP) - Ford Motor Co. (F), Time Warner Inc. (TWX) and Home Depot Inc. (HD) are among the big corporations donating funds for President Bush's reinauguration ceremonies, according to a list released Friday.

<snip>

Besides Ford, Time Warner and Home Depot, the big spenders include the National Association of Homebuilders, based in Washington; Hunt Consolidated Inc. of Dallas; UST Inc. (UST) of Greenwich, Conn.; and First Data Corp. (FDC) of Greenwood Village, Colo.

Marriott International Inc. (MAR), Marriott Vacation Club International and the Marriott-owned Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. each donated $250,000.

Sheldon G. Adelson and Dr. Miriam Ochshorn Adelson of Las Vegas each contributed the maximum amount. Sheldon Adelson is chairman of the board of Las Vegas Sands Inc., a hotel and gaming company.

3. These lists are handy.
They let us know who NOT to do business with. When you do business with their competitor, let them know why you do business with them, and not with the other guys. They'll notice. They'll talk. Buzz will start. Nature of the beast.

Nothing beats starting buzz.

4. Are these contributions by big corporations tax deductable...
...If they are, then the American tax payers are paying for the extravagance because the corporations are avoiding their fair share of taxes. Remember the $2 million Roman birthday party that Tyco CEO put on for his bride? That was paid by tax payers also. These events need to be limited as to tax deductibility. Such expenditures by companies are nothing more than political influence peddling and corruption.

5. No I don't think they would be tax deductible.
Political contributions aren't, lobbying fees are, this isn't a deductible expense I don't think.

I want to know why we are so hot about it though. If we won, our inauguration would have been just as big, maybe bigger because our parties are better, and the same corporations would have been contributing.

Clinton's 1992 inauguration will still be more expensive than this one in real dollars. That one was a blast. If you didn't go, you really missed a party.

8. Clinton's 1992 inauguration really sounds like fun.
More personal reminiscences would really be interesting.

Also a link to the "expense" data.....

6. I'll be sure to never ever stay at Marriot again
and Home Depot is going to displace Wal Mart at #1 on my "Aviod at All Costs" list.
