Specifically...why do the Repugs hate Social Security?
Mandatory compliance..socialism..it's my money..employer contribution?? We know the "crisis" thing is a huge smoke screen for dismantling SS and by damn they've got a clear shot at it now. I have never over the years had a Repug tell me specifically why they detest SS so much.

9. I know of only one Repug
that does turn down Medicare, he is 74 and pays $1,000 for a medical policy with his 55yo wife.

She is now out of work, and still they do not sign him up for it. Crazy yes, but they are some of my best friends.

The nasty jealous repigs can't stand Any success by a Democrat!

I got into politics in 2000 because of the future of Social Security and turns out it wasn't paranoia. And, although, it has gone way beyond Social Security ..it's still a very Important issue to millions of Americans.

What's it gonna take..millions of repugs on less Social Security after bushfucker gets through ..to throw his carlyle ass out?

32. They think of Social Security recipients as undeserving.Even more so
when that person is a minority.

The other issue with them is that people who are assured of a dignified life are people without fear and they can ask uncomfortable questions. We don't want that, do we?

They aren't cheating us out of our "savings"..like so many enron employees.

I know they are on a deadline track to destroy ..and the only hope we have is for the press to return from the dead.

23. Railroad Retirement
Was the father of the Social Security system. When I was working, I paid an ADDITIONAL 4% in RRB taxes, and my employer paid an ADDITIONAL 16%. Our benefits are modeled on SS, but are higher.

We fought for a couple of years to expand the system, and it was the first time in history that the unions and carriers ever agreed on anything. We finally got Congress to pass it 3 years ago. The carriers (Railroads) even agreed to pay any future shortages in the system, and if it was overfunded, benefits would increase.

The reactionary Republicans in Congress and the White House are trying to repeal EVERY advance made in the 20th century. We have to fight them every step of the way. Starting today.

39. I am
A conductor on the BNSF railroad, have been for over 27 years. I think the reason the RW's hate SS is its very concept, that we are all in this together. We pay for those who came before us and those who come after us pay for us. It fosters the sense of community that those that worship on the alter of economic Darwinism find anathema. In my opinion NO program that fostered a sense of community would be acceptable to them

5. FDR - anything he was for, they wanna abolish just on principle.
Then there is the employer contribution part. They profess a lot of Christian values, but they don't want to render unto Caesar what is Caesar's any more than they want to render unto God what is God's. And they sure as hell don't want to render ANYTHING unto anyone if they can't get some benefit from it personally.

Vengeance, greed, simple as that. All else is the smoke screen you mentioned.

IF you don't think that is the long term goal you are kidding yourself.

Funny thing though-Regan RAISED payroll taxes and SS tax thus making it as viable as it is today. Krugman wrote a great piece on it a few months ago.

6. They view it as in investment, not as insurance or wealth distribution
They believe they could get a better return on their money managing it themselves than by sending it to Uncle Sam.

And if they die before they're old enough to collect the money that they've paid into the system (as well as the interest on that money), they are upset that they don't get to decide who gets it via inheritance.

7. Economic Conservatives just hate socialism
They believe it "Saps" peoples willingness to work. for example take a 70 years old cripple, they are jobs such a person can do, but he can AVOID working by going on the "Dole". If he would get into the work force he could find a job (and by working bring down the cost of labor which is the real goal of ending Social Security).

Economic Conservatives OPPOSE anything that upholds wages (including Social Security, Unemployment Compensation and Welfare which pays people when they are NOT working). These Economic Conservatives believe it is best to have to lowest paid workers. At present they like China for China has the lowest paid workers in the World. Lower pay, higher profits. That is ALL such Economic Conservatives look at.

Yes, there is a split between Economic Conservatives and Social Conservatives. Bush is a hard core Economic Conservative. Bush "months" Social Conservative-ism but it is all talk and no actions (Except to get re-elected).

trying to kill it since it was first created.
#2. It is money that they can not steal from the recipiants. Specifically, they can not profit from the managment of the moneies.

#3. They feel it helps sustain a middle class and they TRUE Republican, the ones with money, all think there should be two classes in this country, the Rich and the Poor. And that reason is why I don't understand anyone making less than $500K/Year would ever consider themselves a republican or vote for one of the SOB's

13. Why? Here's Why ...
The ReSUCKplicans want to destroy Social Security because it will mean that many older folks and handicapped people will have to go back to work in order to support themselves. Larger working population pools means that employers can reduce wages. Lower wages means higher profits. And by not having to pay their portion of FICA taxes, this will increase corporate profits even more.

Notice how this is not being reported by the controlled Orwellian reich wing media. And note how the passive Democrats refuse to say anything about it.

I don't think they even try to concieve what the long term effects are likely to be (further permanent impoverishment of many elderly and disabled citizens) - and don't think they can imagine living in such a hostile society. Simply - they have been sold on "big sounding ideas" and stopped thinking about the real-world implications of said policies really are.

Republicans detest the idea of anyone being the recipients of anything that helps to maintain a modicum of dignity in old age. These folks are just another kind of social darwinist.

Also privatizatoin is a great opporutnity for the well connected to make quick bucks if they are in the right place.

29. Typically (if therre is such a thing) they believe in the "by the
bootstrap" method and either work for large corp's (which used to have terrific pension programs) or for themselves. They have the "work ethic" no one should "give" me anything and I should "earn everything myself". And thus, if they are successful and have worked hard (and corporate jobs are hard as many of you know) then other's don't deserve a "free ride". They disdain those who don't really work hard, save money, pay their own way. And social security is an "entitlement" program. And the whole idea of "entitlement" to something you didn't "work hard" for is anathema to Republicans. Most of the one's that run the party never really need their social security (it's the equivalent of a new handbag or good looking jacket a month for them) so they really resent paying it.

Feel free to agree or disagree with my analysis! BernieBear

30. because they want to steal your money
The GOP is all about the theft and giving hand-outs to the financial services industry. Social Security is a competitor for that industry, since they assume that all moneys currently put into SSN would go into investment.

A system that doesn't have to provide for profit is going to be more leaner and more efficient than a system that has to pay for fat cat CEOs, so of course the financial service industry bitterly resents people having Social Security to rely on. They would rather see you get much less money in retirement after paying high fees for financial service to Citibank and the rest of the usual suspects.

Middle class and poor people who object to Social Security are dupes. Some are merely ignorant and can be educated. Others do not have the intelligence to withstand the constant hammering of anti-Social Security propaganda from the noisy gang of thieves and enablers in the media.

We are digging way too deep on this one.
It's a lot easier to explain.

THEY HATE IT BECAUSE THEY HAVE YET TO BE ABLE TO STEAL IT AND HAND IT OUT TO ALL OF THEIR FRIENDS.

But they are close to figuring it out and now they have Chimpy the boy wonder as their mouthpiece.

All the American people need to know is that the investment banks are some of Chimpy's largest financial supporters.

They ain't throwin' millions at him because he's a nice guy.

They are greedy soulless pigs.

37. They can;t skim a profit off of it.
That's why they hate many programs. If there is a chance to make a profit off something, they'll want to get their hands on it. Lots of times this is done under the guise of making things "more efficient" in the free market, but the free market doesn't specialize in making things efficient, that's just a side effect for the real goal which is to make profit.
