Bush 'Undermining UN with Aid Coalition'

United States President George Bush was tonight accused of trying to undermine the United Nations by setting up a rival coalition to coordinate relief following the Asian tsunami disaster.

But former International Development Secretary Clare Short said that role should be left to the UN. “I think this initiative from America to set up four countries claiming to coordinate sounds like yet another attempt to undermine the UN when it is the best system we have got and the one that needs building up,” she said.

“Only really the UN can do that job,” she told BBC Radio Four’s PM programme. “It is the only body that has the moral authority. But it can only do it well if it is backed up by the authority of the great powers.” Ms Short said the coalition countries did not have good records on responding to international disasters.

She said the US was “very bad at coordinating with anyone” and India had its own problems to deal with.

4. somebody had to say it....bush* is an ass and he doesn't care about

Muslims and Hindus....those "brown skin people".....it's been SIX DAYS, and all other countries have arrived and are delivering aid...all began the FIRST DAY, to put stuff and airplanes and go there....BUT not bush*.....

this morning, I heard on the radio, and interview with bush* military general in charge of OUR aid...the guy is located on bush* newly re-opened Vietnam-era airbase in Thailand....he said that there are now 500 MILITARY people there...but they are STILL PLANNING...and that our navy ships will arrive in 'about three more days" and then they will PLAN how to deliver drinking water...


what the hell????? IMO, bush* is trying to re-open that Thailand base for his continuous war and KILLING programs....

5. Notice that we haven't heard another peep about this since thursday

since this item came out (and bush was pushed to go from 4m to 15m to 35m by thursday)... hours later Great Britain, France and even China pledged large amounts. Soon the total was reported at half a billion. A day later - bush announces our larger pledge of 350m and the whole "we control... er... coordinate... distributing all the aid from everyone" was gone. *poof*

Won't get much play here, of course, but internationally, once again he shows his colors (you decide just what those colors are...)
