These beachfront resorts are owned by HUUUUGE hotel conglomerates, who see nothing wrong with charging $600 PLUS a night. As owners of beachfront resorts, the might actually have some laibility here.

When you go on a cruise, one of the first things you do is have the safety lecture and the lifeboat drill. Not because they think the ship will sink, but because they MUST make the passengers aware that there are some dangers that MIGHT befall them while cruising.

You cannot tell me that SOME big-wig at Meridien or Hyatt or some other mega-hotel chain did NOT hear about the earthquake in Sumatra. Surely someone there might have added 1+1 and had it come up to "Better warn the onsite managers to mention the possibility to the guests"..

The day it poured rain when we were in Tahiti, there werte BIG SIGNS put out in the lobby that warned us about the possibility of flooding, since there were cliffs and mountains directly across the road from us..

Onnce the shock wears off, I bet there will be some lawsuiits brought, since the hotels WERE collecting huge sums of money from their guests, and even though the tsunami was not certain, they should have at least been warned that there was a possibility.. I'm not suggesting that the hotels should have rounded the guests up, and forced them to flee, but I cannot believe that people who live on a coastline were totally ignorant of the possibility..

There HAD been an evacuation in '99 (although a tsunami did not happen then), so they cannot use the "Condi Rice" excuse.

And, oh, yeah. Lawsuits. It's an American thing. It's a right of passage. And, yes, of course there will be lawsuits, galore!!

As a lawyer, I love to litigate (shall I toss my business cards about)?!
