bumper sticker seen on a big SUV below a Bush/Cheney sticker....
"Nuke their ass and take their gas" On a Ford Explorer.

Charming. Occasional sightings like this remind me how strange it is to be marooned among the pea-brains on this backward planet. The bright side, if you can call it that, is that the owners of the vehicle probably have to choose between sending their kids to college or buying gas for it. Sadly, their choice is obvious....

7. I'd prefer a potato up the tailpipe
there's less effort required. Or maybe letting the air out of two tires.

However, as a practical matter, I don't do either, since stupidity like that is generally its own reward.

How would you like to go through life hating everybody because of that nagging suspicion in the back of your mind that they know something you don't know?

9. I've heard that a rubber mallet and a potato and then a broom stick to
push potato further into the pipe does wonders and drives even the best of mechanics wild.

Never done it, but have thought about it!

34. I was thinking the same thing yesterday.
Since the election, I've been paying very little attention to the TV news. I can only imagine how miserable RW hate radio listeners and FOX news viewers must be. To be constantly told that everybody is out to get you, Hilary is going to eat your babies, the UN is funding terrorists, etc. can't be good for the psyche.

Not that I feel sorry for them in particular, just that I take some amount of solace in knowing that inside they are already as miserable as they hope to make the rest of us.

4. I consider it a considerate warning sign
I appreciate it when people give such clear warnings as to who I'm dealing with. I know to give that particular SUV an extra sixty yards or so of following distance, for instance. So when he rams the school bus full of kids off the road for being "in his way", I won't be caught in the collateral damage and will be able to call for help. Quite thoughtful, really.

27. I was shocked New Year Eve......................
OK, call me naive. I really didn't think the rhetoric of the Rethug party had permeated so far into the main stream population.

I was at a small New Years Eve get together, with people I know pretty well, or at least I thought I did. The tsunami was mentioned, and someone said we shouldn't send any aid to them. I protested that was an inhumane position. They said what did they do for us. Anything we send won't be appreciated, they expect it from us. Anyway they are poor and illiterate, it's the earth's way of controlling the population. Survival of the fittest. I was speechless.

But then the conversation switched to Iraq, some transitional comment, maybe about how much we are going to be spending there. The comment was something along the lines of blast them all to hell. I said what about the innocent women and children? The response...they aren't innocent. They are harboring insurgents and terrorists. They are helping to kill our troops. We should drop the big one on them. Let them know what's coming, if they don't clear out, then that's tough. While the comments came from one or two individuals, no one spoke up in opposition, and several others were nodding their heads in agreement. I made a few comments but the intensity of their comments, said with such hatred and conviction, convinced me that nothing I could say would change or moderate their views. It just would have developed into a shouting match and ruined what up to that point had been a nice evening.

I shook my head and walked away. The situation has bothered me ever since. These are not redneck, back woods, religious zealots. These people are well educated, moderately comfortable, main stream Americans.

Where is compassionate America? The Rethugs have changed the thinking in America from we can be a force of goodwill in the world, to we take care of our own, (unless they are poor, elderly or sick)and fuck you world.

6. That pretty much sums up the right wing
A complete disregard for the environment (use a nuclear weapon)
A complete disregard for other people's property (take their gas)
Right wingers have the attitude that their position is provided by God and that justifies doing anything they want to anyone at anytime.

14. Ayn Rand... ABSOLUTELY. Thom Hartman had some libertarian nutcase..
on his show recently that was telling the world that the reason the US is losing Iraq is because we haven't killed an adequate number of civilians.

The guy was a freak, and yet the head of some bullshit group that he described as "radicals for capitalism".

12. I've seen those around here, too.
I have a terrible little story to tell about one of the vehicles that I've seen adorned with this blustery, tough guy bullshit.

One Friday evening, as I am oft to do, I stopped at Papa Murphies Pizza. It's our little family night ritual. I park three spaced down from a van with Bush/Cheney and the infamous "..take their gas" bumper sticker.

As I walked towards the pizza place, I noticed some commotion in the van, as if there were a couple of people waiting there.

So I walk in to order my pizza, wait my usual time and walk out. As I headed towards my car, the woman who was apparently driving the van was ahead of me walking towards her van. I noticed in the front driver's seat window, peering out while holding the steering wheel, a baby of about 2 - 3 years old. I noticed this while about 10 yards behind this woman.

Now, I tell you that I noticed this from a distance because this clueless ditz apparently didn't notice. She flung the driver's door open and the baby flew out with the momentum of the door. The baby exited the van, free flying, landing right on its back on the cold asphalt.

Before I could even blink my eyes, this woman snatched the baby off the asphalt (without given a moment to see if it had been injured), sternly passed it off to whomever else was sitting in the car, and start screaming angrily while driving away with noticeable aggression.

I tell this story because I was dumbstruck by the total absence of care provided a potentially hurt child. This was no small fall, the van was certainly not 'mini' and the kid must have 'back-flopped' an easy three feet of free fall before slamming into the asphalt. Did she stop to see whether the child was injured? No. Did she stopped to think that such a fall could have injured the child's neck or back to such an extent that her rushed transfer into the car could have caused more damage? No. She picked it up and started screaming.

I went home and told my wife that I had seen the enemy and if it could treat a child with so little compassion, god only knows what they would allow to happen to us.

Hope they run into a gang of Democrat truckers. I've seen some groups of Dem truckers terrorize the biggest badassed SUV Dumbya Lover.

It is SOOOOOOO gratifying.

But the kid sort of haunts me. I would have been the bigmouth screaming at them for their stupidity.

22. I travelled Highway 15 this week between
LA and Las Vegas, where my sister-in-law lives. My husband (one of the "rules" guys) was in the slow lane in our Camry keeping it at the limit while being passed by numerous monster SUVs festooned with Chimp/Cheny stickers, support the troops magnets, American flags, etc. All of the gas guzzlers were vastly exceeding the limit, getting the worst mileage possible, and endangering life and limb - theirs and everybody else's on that vast stretch of desert road. Those braindead assholes don't care about anything. And what's frightening is their numbers -- more than half the vehicles on that road.
