Cabinet increases Canada's aid
Last Updated Sun, 02 Jan 2005 14:03:26 EST

OTTAWA - The federal cabinet has decided to double Canada's potential aid to tsunami victims to $80 million from $40 million, CBC Radio reports.

The decision was made Sunday as Prime Minister Paul Martin and senior ministers met to discuss the relief efforts.

Canada has also decided to deploy the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to Ampara, Sri Lanka. On the country's east coast, it was the region the hardest hit by the giant waves on Dec. 26.

1. This is all fine and dandy. However...
...private donations in Canada are currently more than this figure. I'd just like to remind my fellow Canucks to keep the donations coming in from the private sector/general public.
