1. They travel at about 500 miles/hour.
Basically, it's one huge wall of water that smashes everything and then drains away.

3. Thats a loaded question
Do you live near a coast? I live in Cal. What happened was the tide suddenly went way down... locals thought this was very odd as they've never had an earthquake, so some actually walked further out where there had been water. Almost like it was a massive low tide. After a minute or two, the tide came rushing in, then a second wave came in on top of that. It was more of a huge high tide then a tidal wave in most spots. Of course places where there was a reef would produce a huge wave, but for the most part it was similar to the movie The Day After Tommorrow. What I find odd is that it did not recede back to normal. If you look at some of the satellite photos, it appears as if much of the affected coast is still underwater.

6. Yeah, it's a series of waves...
The second one that hit Thailand sounds like it was bigger than the first...

I found this. It's not specifically about this tsunami, but about tsunamis in general and how they act...

How many waves are there in a tsunami?

A tsunami generally consists of a series of waves, often referred to as the tsunami wave train. The amount of time between successive waves, known as the wave period, is only a few minutes, in some instances, waves are over an hour apart. Many people have lost their lives after returning home in between the waves of a tsunami, thinking that the waves had stopped coming.
