my most expensive tank of gas EVER |
|
Edited on Sat Sep-06-03 10:35 PM by unblock
i've been driving for about 23 years now (and boy is my butt sore ;)).
mrs. unblock and i just had dinner out in beautiful downtown bensalem, pa. on the way back, i pumped my own gas, just over 16 gallons for $32.64! $2.029/gal!!! and that's not even full serve.
in new jersey, the same grade (premium) is about $1.60, AND they pump the gas for you (in new jersey it's actually illegal to offer self-serve.)
yes, i'm sure some of you drive big american guzzlers with big american gas tanks and probably have paid $50 for a tank. but i've only ever owned nissans (2 sentras and 1 maxima, going back to 1985).\
so what's your personal record, and did you break it with your last fill-up?

1. I'm in the Chicago area and the price is up there - $1.82/gal. |
|
And that's at the cheapest place you can find. Luckily, I'm only 3 miles from work. I try not to look at the total.

3. Premiun is about $2.35 in the San Francisco area |
|
on average ... much higher in some places. REGULAR goes for $2.05 and up. Here's a link to prices for REGULAR over the past couple of days. http://www.sanfrangasprices.com/Consider yourself lucky.

Plus they still pump it for you and clean the windows

7. well, they CALL it full service |
|
but all it really means is that they pump the gas for you. actually, there is a very nice gas station owner near my house who always cleans my windshield (or 'windscreen' as mrs. unblock says), although that's not normal.
in fact, one of his employees recently sat on his ass when we pulled up to the far island. and waited. and waited. he was staring right at us, and there was no one else there. finally, we backed up and pulled up to the NEAR island and he got up and pumped our gas.
what a gasshole.

was actually at the very beginning of your driving career when gas was ~ $2.71 / gallon in today's dollars. on edit, make that $2.92 if you live in michigan http://www.cis.state.mi.us/mpsc/reports/energy/00summer/gasolineprices.htm
