Montana: Bastion of liberal thought....
Maybe, just maybe, this may be taken as a sign that there's hope for the country at large...

"Montana's public universities must provide their gay employees with insurance coverage for their domestic partners, the state's Supreme Court ruled yesterday."

1. Some areas like Missoula or Bozeman aren't so bad
Pretty red once you get away from those, though.

future. Get ready for the Marriage Amendment- if your luck you will still be able to have domestic partnerships after all is said and done. It has nothing to do with the "new porgressive Montana". Democrats win with a Republican running mate- they just did what the Repug Gov did in Maryland.

4. Hm.... MT already voted down a gay marriage thingie... I think....
I don't know how broadly worded it was tho... ie, whether or not it precludes separate-but-equal unions...

Or mebbe I'm thinkin of somewhere else...

5. Libertarian area
Montana is not really full of Christian Fundies like the south. They are Libertarian/small government Republicans out there.

To them this gay marriage ban is government interference, hense it is shot down and the same with the benefits.

7. Hm.... I think there might be a miscommunication somewhere...
(1) MT sup court decided FOR gay partner benefits for (substantially) state employees.

(2) MT voters banned gay marriage by an overwhelming margin.

All of the MT-isn't-so-bad responses are kinda amusing tho....

8. Not blue enough for me....
My fundie parents and brother live in Bozeman (bro just ran for a House seat...lost to an incumbent) and while there are some liberals there, there are still way too many fundie reds for me. (Husband wants to move back and I just can't bear the thought of it!)
