So we are now in 2005...
The 60th anniversary of the end of WWII (the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings)...

The 30th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War (the Fall of Saigon)....

And the 10th anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing...

Man oh man.

1. This year scares me
Not for what has been, but, for the fresh horror that awaits us. I was sleeping soundly when the new years revelers woke me up with fireworks and gunshots, and I felt really and truly frightened for the days to come.
we've planted a bitter, bitter, crop, and the harvest is what I'm afraid of/ The lunatics have taken over, and their warped view of the world plus these end dayers scare the bejesus out of me.

3. hey we've come a long way baby
back in the near nuclear war hey days of the mid 80's I didn't think we'd see 2000 so, there ya go. hope survives (insert maniacal yet quiet laughter born of years of excessive doomsday themed science fiction books and movies)

4. Oh, yeah.
It's big here in Texas. For some reason, revelers go out and fire guns into the air. NY Eve and I think 4th of July. Never mind that every year the police are all over the news begging people not to do it. Never mind that every year at least one innocent person gets hurt or killed. Two injured in the Dallas area this NY Eve. Crazy world.

6. I've done it myself
when I was young and dumb, stepped out the back door and emptied a .22 into the new year's air. That was a long time ago, i would'nt do it again.
